nah, i think giving bryce underwood a chunk of kelly's contract is a much better investment.

The bust rate for high school players is massive. Nearly 50% of 5 star recruits go undrafted. You're saying this without Underwood ever having taken a snap in college. Need I go through all of our 5 star recruits over the years that amounted to nothing? Now imagine paying those guys 3 million dollars a year to suck with a bargain-bin coaching staff

Now do the bust rate for cfb coaches. I already consider Kelly a bust, he hasn’t produced squat.

He's won 72% of his games.

That's better than not.

I have no idea what you consider a bust. But Kelly's salary is the cost of doing business in today's college football. I already posted the salaries of coaches right now. And that number is only going to grow. Remember when Jimbo's 7.5 million/year contract was first signed at A&M and how crazy people thought that was? That was just 7 years ago. That number would put him around the 20th highest paid head coaches today. I don't think some of you understand the rate of inflation with coaching salaries. It's like y'all want to play the lottery, pay the least amount possible to a young no-name coach, and hope for the best. That's what Joe Dean did with LSU football in the 80s and 90s. It didn't work out well for us.

I noticed that too.

Figured he was just speaking to big boosters on that thing.

"See that missed tackle by Jardin Gilbert? *That's* why we need you to give more. We gotta upgrade."

Austin Thomas isn't a billionaire that is able to throw stupid money at 17 year-olds

He’s a waste of space and instead of paying him money to be useless, use that money in more efficient and effective ways.

Thomas is one of the most overrated human beings on Earth. Guy does almost nothing and gets praised. It’s amazing how much mediocrity this program and admin accepts.

We were told he was fixing the issues.

He has cleaned up and streamlined the collective and started getting the donors pulling in the same direction. It was a total shite show at one point, so that isn’t a bad thing. It’s better run now than it was. Let’s see how that plays out with the portal and heading into next year.

Do you not expect current players to transfer in that scenario?

As has been said many times, we have to dump 12-15 players off the current roster just to bring in this class and a few portal players.

and there you go. So you think paying an unproven high school kid more than all your coaches except the DC and the HC is a good idea.
You’re really good and ignoring the fact that Kelly has more wins than all on that list and played in multiple championship games. Took over a shite show and has to deal with someone NO COACH EVER AT LSU had to deal with in the changing landscape that is NIL where state laws matter.
Face the fact
LSU is not on par with Michigan in donors. You want to have fun, go look at endowments and get back to me on where LSU ranks as a university.

4. Notre Dame - Marcus Freeman - 7 million

Freeman is about to finish year three of a six-year deal. It has been anticipated since the start of this season that an extension would be negotiated at the end of this season. The only questions were exactly how well ND would do in 2024, and how much more Freeman will get as a result.

'Very well' and 'a lot' look like being the most likely answers.

Salaries of AP top 12 coaches

1. Oregon - Dan Lanning - 9.4 million
2. Texas - Steve Sarkisian - 10.3 million
3. Penn St - James Franklin - 8.5 million
4. Notre Dame - Marcus Freeman - 7 million
5. Georgia - Kirby Smart - 13 million
6. Tennessee - Josh Huepel - 9 million
7. Ohio State - Ryan Day - 10 million
8. SMU - Rhett Lashlee - 2.4 million
9. Indiana - Curt Cignetti - 8 million (just signed extension 2 weeks ago)
10. Boise St - Spencer Danielson - 6.5 million
11. Alabama - Kalen Deboer - 10.9 million
12. Arizona St - Kenny Dillingham - 3.9 million

Those outliers will most certainly get raises or new jobs that pay them more, but no the days of big money coaches are far from over. Because finding a good one is most certainly a better investment long-term than hoping an 18 year old pans out.

I think it remains to be seen how revenue sharing impacts coaching contracts. Schools are looking at an additional $20 million in annual cost and, unlike the current NIL dollars, that money will come straight from the athletic departments’ bottom lines.
