I don’t blame him at all. Miles seemingly went out of his way to cock up the offense. Elmer freaking Fudd.

Les needs to explain to all what happened that day. He made no effort to win. He needs to come clean and give some closure.

Truth be told his first game against Tennessee was a portent of things to come. He lost a lot of games he should have won and do not recall any he won that he was not supposed to win. He was NOT an upper tier coach. Ever.

At the end of the third quarter of the BCSCG, Jefferson had completed 76.92% of his passes, and he had a QB efficiency rating of 97.08.
For how many yards? JJ threw a lot of one-yard completions on those BS WR screens in his day.

see people berating Lee in this thread. The kid was a senior, and it was clear the team needed a shot in the arm. Lee started warming up in the second half and had he come in, the entire atmosphere of the Dome would have changed. It could have created a spark and given him an opportunity at redemption. But Les never gave him that opportunity. That burns me to this day, especially for Lee. When Jefferson came back outa after that I knew nothing was changing.
Unfortunately I paid the money to be in the dome that night. There was a point during a tv time out, I believe late third quarter. The team gathered near end of timeout and Lee was in that group. The crowd absolutely starting cheering some. When they broke I swear it looked like he started to trot out and was called back. Those few seconds the crowd started cheering more. When he turned to go back to the sideline, my wife , myself and those sitting around us were like WTF, and the cheering ramped down.
That dome would have erupted at that point if he went in. Who knows, maybe the team responds and finally plays or he could have thrown 10 pick sixes. But at least you would have tried something different since nothing else was working. I don’t care if we lost by 50 at that point if I know we tried everything we possibly could.

I wish someone who was there would let us know what that was all about.

It is not surprising that many hold very hard feelings about Miles and what he did in that game. I was shocked by the lack of any attempt to adjust and the fact that Lee or Mett never saw the field.
No excuse for that. Miles was a blockhead.

9-0!
We were only down two scores half way through the 4thQ!
We had a month to prepare. We not only had Lee. We had Mettenberger available. We had Rueben Randle, Russell Shepard, Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry, and Deangelo Peterson in the receiving corps! Think about that!
Meanwhile, our RBs were serviceable, tough, nongamebreakers.
Yet, that is who we relied on. Miles' "gameplan" was toss dive to SpencerWare off right tackle, toss dive to SpencerWare off left tackle, QB draw, punt. Rinse-and-repeat. No innovative stuff. No wrinkles. Nothing.
We had seen how a change in offensive approach from Lee to JJ won the day at Bama in November. Just as Saban had not prepped the November game for JJ, he had not prepped in the NCG for a guy like Mettenberger to come in and sling it to our receivers.
Would it have worked?
We'll never know.
Because instead of recognizing Bama had come close to shutting down our offense in T-town, and we needed to design something differently in the rematch, Miles just stuck to the same-old-same-old.
He never gave LSU a chance.
It was a pathetic effort.
Given the stakes and the time for preparation, it was the worst game plan I've ever seen. I cannot imagine the disappointment our players must have felt in the locker room postgame.
I'd bet that is what you're hearing from Will Blackwell.

Maybe someone will write a book...

You’re right, the 2005 team had no business losing 2 games as well. It was three years in a row and not just the two I mentioned

Lee couldn’t beat Bama. He was honestly a terrible qb. Jefferson was as well, but at least he had some mobility.

Neither were terrible, neither were very good. Both were situational QBs

we had FCS qb level qbs for ten years during the miles era, sans Mettenberger.

bullshite. Lee was pretty damn good that year. Was on track for First team All SEC. Landry and OBJ were developing pretty well with his passing game.
Then OH MY GOSH, Saban made him look bad JUST AS HE DID TO ELI, ROTHLESBURGER, and GREENE in college at LSU. Just as he has done to other countless qbs.
But heaven forbid, that means Lee sucks. frick you. Lee was having a damn good year and got screwed because we faced one of the best defensive coaches who excels at affecting quarterbacks.

practiced one gameplan all week and used another for the game
Both JJ and DeAngelo Peterson (Sr. Bowl interview) stated this. The game plan as practiced was to spread Bama out wide line Utah did. But we didn't do that.
Regarding the in-game strategy. I think Les felt at the start of the 2nd half that we could pin them deep (sort of like what happened with UGA in the SECCG) and make some FGs or perhaps Tyrann could return a punt. Only time we kicked off the entire game. That died when Bama made a great KO return.

The offensive line absolutely got embarrassed in the 2011 title game. Physically it was like watching a college team against a high school team. The scheme didn’t help but if your Miles hate won’t let you admit that the O-line got exposed in that game then you have let emotion take over. The line acquitted itself much better in the first Bama game so that shows scheme wasn’t the only factor.
You lack the fundamental understanding of exactly what made the O-line look so bad the second time. I assume you're not an 8 year old child so I'm not going to explain it to you! I'm really just posting because I hate stupid people and I think you're an imbecile!
