Godwin doesn't have nearly the recruiting power at ECU as does LSU. Its all about development.

He’s competing with UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, and USCe, Clemson, UVA right next door. I think he’d kill it at LSU.

If we aren't even looking in Vitello's direction, Godwin is best case scenario who I would be more than happy with.

I don't realistically think we pull McDonnell from Louisville.

He was still pretty highly regarded, some may not have known him initially but once you looked at his resume and then heard his PC he had people on board

Regardless, where we were as a program then we weren’t above him that’s for damn sure.

Also a very respected hitting coach during his time at LSU.

Recruiting? Check.
Hitting coach? Check.
Winning pedigree and SEC experience? Check.
Young and hungry? Check.
Familiarity with LSU and our expectations? Check.*

Change “hitting coach” to “pitching coach”, as a national title and a 50% CWS appearance rate while at an SEC school and you’d have O’Sullivan. I’ll take that guy.

I'd be ok with Sully, but would rather Godwin or McDonnel. Sully ain't happening though.

I would take David Pierce from Texas, Godwin, Vitello. No thanks on Bianco.

I submit that within 2 years you will have 4 profitable sports at LSU - football, baseball, basketball and womens basketball.

Won't happen in women's basketball. You would be talking about turning around the sport that operates the deepest in the red. Even UConn doesn't turn a profit. There just isn't enough demand. Particularly at the price point necessary to turn a profit...a price point that would have to be significantly higher in light of the fact you've just SIGNIFICANTLY increased your operating expenses by paying just the HC $2.5 million.

Over the past several years WBB routinely operated at a $4.0 million loss (the highest of any sport). Now, the revenues should tick up with the new hire and (likely) success. But the expenses have massively increased with almost $2.0 million more just going to pay the HC.

From a pure financial standpoint Mulkey is a terrible hire. But, LSU is apparently ok trading success on the court for what will still be a big loss on the books.

Godwin would be a good hire but half the rant would hate it because he’s not one of the big names in the sport.

Neither was Saban.

Been saying since the beginning that i like Godwin alot. Although Vitello would be my 1st choice Godwin is right behind. Hopefully you dont have to make a 3rd call

Has been my first choice all along. Brings good talent to ECU. Will bring great talent to LSU and great coaches.

I like the idea of Godwin. Young with a blue blood pedigree and LSU experience. Higher risk but higher reward than some of the more proven HCs out there. I think we’re all secretly hoping to find the next Saban of one of the big 3 sports.

Woody has a proven track record of convincing big-name coaches to not say no. I think he'll get the cream of the crop with a home run hire of McDonnell.

I mean, it was right there in the post...

Also, FTR, I'm not counting CKM's contract versus womens basketball since the bulk of it does not come from WBB operations... so it's technically a fluke. :)

This is true... Woody has proven with the Mulkey hire here that he can pull big names. IF we can get McDonnell,i would support 110%

And if everyone is looking for the new Skip. This is what Von Rosenberg said once Paul announced retirement.
