I didn't realize Cliff Godwin had the pedigree that he does

Coached under Corbin at Vanderbilt, Mainieri (two places, brought him with him to LSU), and Bianco at Ole Miss.

Also went to CWS with LSU and Ole Miss. And has brought East Carolina to 2 Super Regionals in the last 2 full seasons (2020 doesn't count).

Has served as Head of Baseball Operations at Vanderbilt and Recruiting Coordinator at Ole Miss when he landed some serious talent for the Rebels.

I think he and McDonnell are my two favorites at this point.

Sorry if you all already knew all of this, just sharing if you haven't

Godwin would be a good hire but half the rant would hate it because he’s not one of the big names in the sport.

Also a very respected hitting coach during his time at LSU.

Recruiting? Check.
Hitting coach? Check.
Winning pedigree and SEC experience? Check.
Young and hungry? Check.
Familiarity with LSU and our expectations? Check.*

*although not that important, still a nice to have

Most people don't realize this. He's a great candidate.

well sully and schloss or whatever is out.

Not sure how many other big names they are expecting.

Vitello is the young hip hire, doesn't really smell like LSU tbh. Godwin and McDonnel seem like LSU hires to me. Bianco is the dark ninja horse.

Bianco is the dark ninja horse with a high floor and low ceiling that will not excite anyone and will likely never win a title at LSU, but will keep his job by winning a good bit of his regular season games.

I’ll say this in Bianco’s defense

In a bubble I like Any coaches chances of winning a CWS at LSU better than at Ole Miss.

We’re talking about one of the premier baseball teams in the country vs the second team in Mississippi.

Do people realize that Bianco turned Ole Miss baseball around? Also, Cliff Godwin may be the best fit for LSU for all the reasons listed above by other posters on here. Not to mention he seems to have no drama in his personal life, and has taken an ECU program who is nowhere near a powerhouse in any sport and has had them either hosting a regional or in contention to host a regional the majority of his time there. Imagine what he could do with the talent and resources at LSU, because obviously the knowledge of the game is there for him.

Sure, I agree, but Ole Miss has a great program (largely due to him). He has had elite talent and positioned them to make deep postseason runs and has almost always fallen flat on his face.

It's not like he would be going from Missouri to LSU. Ole Miss is a big time program.

Those Supers in Oxford he kept losing were madhouses and he had a talent advantage. A lot of choke jobs under his watch.

He's got a good resume for sure. Especially for a guy who's 43.

ECU already had a good program and he's elevated it during his tenure.

There are countless examples of coaches in every sport that are program builders, but not championship winners.

He has been great at fundraising, fan support, and recruiting. LSU doesn't need those things. He has been very lackluster when it comes to hardware and postseason runs despite positioned well to do-so.

He's a pretty good coach and good program builder. He's not a champion.

Does Godwin want to leave his home state? I love the pedigree but many of these decisions also brings in personal. He’s back home coaching at his alma mater.
