Often found myself wondering why we had to lose to Florida in 03, how the 2 loss 07 season felt less fulfilling and the what ifs in Auburn 06 and 1/9. But putting it all in perspective, I’d take those teams and seasons in a heartbeat today. They were great teams and we were lucky to witness them.

I always appreciated them. I was little but I can vaguely remember the 90’s. I have a clear memory of asking my dad on the way to the stadium if we were gonna win. He said “I doubt it but we are gonna have a good time”.

2001 was very nice and all, and I was at the game that cold night in New Orleans. But we we're fortunate with 3 losses. Today that gets us the Belk bowl.

I'd say 2003-2011, but a case could be made for 2001-2012.

In any event, those 10 years were an anomaly for lsu football, overall. The 80s had a couple good teams.

Here's hoping we are on the track to getting back there soon.

yea after going thru the 90's I truly enjoyed all the success that we had under saban and miles. Winning two national championships I will remember until I die. I hope we can see it again

Well I appreciated those times as they were here and I still have no doubt that LSU will get back there. Louisiana is too full of hard nosed talent across the state not to be in contention with the right pieces in place.

LSU has some of the best talent in the country and we've always had talent since Saban but what we were missing was quality depth at key positions on any given year. We always seemed to be young in one phase or the other.

If anything Orgeron is trying his darnedest to fix those issues. If he can't get it done in the coaching department, I think we will end up with a great coach after him and that coach will have depth everywhere from the looks of our current recruiting. All it takes is for it all to come together in the right year. If this thing falls apart LSU will have to take a hard look at what they did in the Saban days to be successful and simply repeat that. It's a fact that process works so if we have veered from that process then they should get rid of whom ever is preventing that from happening and hire people who know how to bring it back. Simple as that.

We have the talent around this school to get it done again and consistently. The dedication from the top down needs to be there first though. If this fails then LSU as a program needs to get back to that dedication of excellence on and off the field. I think we'll be fine.

2011 Oklahoma State-Iowa State is the biggest what-if. Hell, it’s more like a what-could’ve-been. We would’ve crushed Oklahoma State and gone down as the best team ever.

Include 2012 in that golden era.

People forget that we were a TJ Yeldon screen pass away from winning the SEC West, playing UGA in the SEC Title Game, and then playing Notre Dame in the BCS Title game. (Assuming that we beat UGA).

LSU had plenty of talent before Saban ever came. It takes more than talent.

It's a delicate balance of things, and not easily replicated. I HOPE we get back there, but there's no guarantee we'll see another national title in our lifetimes.
We're not noticeably better than Georgia, for example, when it comes to talent on a yearly basis. They last won a title almost 40 years ago.

It was the golden years of LSU football. It’s a shame that Les was ran out of town like he was. His 10 year stretch might not be duplicated again.

Yep. Sad how spoiled our fanbase has become in the last 15 years.

I enjoyed the hell out of Mett’s senior year in 2013 too. Yeah, we lost 3, but it still felt like part of the golden age.

Definitely a great era, I still sometimes get the chills when I think about the big time games through those years and big time clutch plays. Devery high stepping in the end zone as Kentucky’s students tore down the goal post, 03 Georgia, 07 Florida, and what a hell of a ride 11 was. I was in Morgantown in 11 and I tell you what, i will never forget when Morris Claiborne took that kickoff to the house right after WV closed the gap with a touchdown.

... and in spite of some pretty rough spots, 2000 and Saban felt like something was coming. The Peach Bowl where Rohan came in at half... you could just feel it starting to roll.

You want to talk about spoiled? I was not raised in a hardcore LSU sports family, & did not truly start following LSU until the 2011 season
