I am going on record as being totally wrong about Scott Woodward.

Woodward ran one of the best coaching searches I have ever seen. After Lincoln Riley left for USC I thought Scott had been played. I was completely wrong. I love the hire. We finally have a well spoken, successful head coach.

Congratulations Scott. Welcome Coach Kelly.

I apologize and I am a clueless fool. Scott is the Master.

We gave Kelly an absurd contract. Let's revisit this take in 2 years.

No we didn't. Look at the market. Actually pretty great deal considering his resume.

We gave him a market value contract. Compared to Tuckers contract, we got a deal

Agreed. Doing it the right way takes time and of course we were very impatient. Mostly because we are used to getting everything instantly no.

Love the hire and predict we will be successful for years to come with CBK.

If you want a good coach.. absurd contracts are the price.

Look at what USC gave Riley lol. We got a steal compared to that shite

Everybody worth their salt now gets an absurd contract.

It's like Oprah giving out cars.

I'll agree that it should be revisited but who else has BK's long-term successful resume out there?

I'll hang up and listen.

I will literally never care about how much we’re paying a coach. I don’t see you on here bitching about how we’re paying some piece of shite good ole baw $500,000,000 to make a poor attempt at doing unnecessary road work in BR right now. $10MM a year isn’t a drop in the bucket of how much money Louisiana wastes per year

I like to imagine Scott is like Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder in that scene where he's telling Matthew McConaughey's character all the stuff he'd give him

BK: "Let me get this straight, you want me to let my team of 12 years die in the playoffs alone for some money and a G5?"

SW: "Yes"

BK: ".......a G5 airplane?"

SW: "Yes. And llots of money. Playaaaaa.."

In 2 years, with current rate of inflation, Kelly may hold out for a new contract.

If we compare his salary compared to what some NBA players make, it doesn't seem so absurd. He has a real job.

The most fascinating part of all this is that Woodward probably was working on the deal in some way last year.

You are totally wrong about a lot of stuff you post. If you started a thread for each one the entire first 3 pages would be filled up.

That's just not how that works at all.

I don't necessarily agree with this opinion article but the university/taxpayers arent funding coaching salaries as much as you think. The faculty started complaining about how much money TAF was contributing back to the university and Woodward cut them off. I don't even think they have BK on payroll at the university. O's buyout was paid for by boosters before he landed in BR after the UCLA game.

It’s almost odd having a coach that speaks clearly and is normal. It still doesn’t feel like he’s our coach lol.

Are you kidding?? Michigan State just paid a coach with 10% of Kelly’s track record the same amount of money.

His approach has been top notch and exemplified with Johnson, Mulkey and Kelly. I actually think he throws out the media driven smokescreens on purpose. It’s awesome.

Agreed. And to boot...

What's the delta in intake of a 6 win season vs. what a coach like CBK is expected to do?

Merc sales? donations? ticket sales? season tix? concessions?

Is it more than 1 mil? 2 mil? Woodward is planning on it paying for itself between the difference of CEO's contract vs. CBK's.

Not to mention what the combination of the new (and better financially for the SEC) ESPN tv deal and expansion by the SEC is going to bring.

I'll add- how many coaches actually finish their terms? Not many, for one reason or another. And there's a reason they get extensions: recruiting a player for 3/4 year commitment is harder when you are less than that on your contract. So at best, in year 6 or 7 this contract changes.
