I guess with models stretching from Mexico to Tampa Florida, it is hard to miss.
Let's go ahead and cancel every soccer match, bull fight, football game, wedding, and dog fight located in Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica,Tx, La, Miss, Ala, and Florida.

Hmmm funny how all those models are pretty close in the 2-3 day range and jump all over the place after that.. Im sure thats just a coincidence though. Why does it even matter though Im sure one of the models yesterday had it right to begin with.

Why can't the US invent something to stop this garbage from happening? Drop some chemicals over the eye of the storm or create a high pressure system to push this thing back out to the ocean.
Dam, it's 2008. If we can land a US space craft with a crew of oil workers on an asteroid. Then drill a hole and drop a bomb in it and spit the asteroid so it misses planet earth. Then why can't we handle a little bitty hurricane?

When will the new models come out?

yo catman, you seem like the voice of reason in this thread. im gonna keep reading your posts on the storm.

In reality if we stopped hurricanes from happening we would literally be killing the planet.. They are extremely important in cycling warm waters from the tropics to the poles. What you are asking is basically to cut mother natures timing belt.

Yeah, but can't it do it on a day LSU isn't playing? Sheesh!

There are people who claim the technology is available but they are concerned with what they don't know. In other words, would they cause more long term harm to the planet by altering weather patterns than would be caused by allowing them storms to play out. Who knows. I agree you would think they could at least diminish the strength to some degree.

After rethinking this over, I'm gonna stop reading your posts on the storm. I will carry on buisness else where.

Catman, you're an angry elf.
Were you this passionate at NOAA. I could just see that you must have gotten alone with fellow forecasters just peachy.
Stating your point (which is completely reasonable) with where this storm will be in three days, are you not concerned? And when it is 3 days out from now, it will be within 1-2 days from stricking shores as a Cat3-4. Your opinion has been stated and is valid, but there is no reason to get high an mighty about it. I too know people with big pants, I don't need to tell rantards about it.
And I can say ranter because I too am a ranter. Anyone who is not then I would take offense.

Models come out at different times during the day. Some models you can run ensembles on and have information that you basically provide as an update others mainly globals can take half a day to run.

Funny Im not the only one with this belief..

Q: Are there any benefits to having a hurricane?
A: Believe it or not, yes. Hurricanes are play a very important role in preserving the heat balance that the earth maintains by transferring heat from the tropics to the poles. They also can be very helpful to areas affected by drought with their torrential rains.

Are you some kind of expert on our ecosystem? And I'm not saying that catman is, but to call him an idiot over a comment that cetainly seems to have some legitimacy to it seems unreasonable.

I have seen some really cool things done recently in trying to do this. Nobody will ever try to stop hurricanes from forming that would be silly. But we dont need cat 3 and above storms to do the same job. Problem is its very dangerous to mess with mother nature. Things happen that we just dont understand.

Notice how sharp of a turn due west this thing has recently taken. If anything, it may just clip the very far western tip of Cuba.

Yeah, I was thinking yesterday that it just doesn't flood enough.

From everything I see, where the hurricane hits is gonna depend on how fast the hurricane itself travels because this will determine which steering current will influence it's path. What Im saying is, this combination of variables makes it impossible to project it's path 3 or 4 days in advance. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best
