Were you this passionate at NOAA

Didnt work at NOAA.. Although they did have a station down the road.. Worked at NAVOCEANO. Naval Oceanographic Headquaters at Stennis Space Center.

Never really had to get too passionate there claiming that model runs were only accuate for a short period.. Didnt have too Main model we ran was working with FNMOC on NOGAPS and a couple of other ocean models that the NAVY uses.

Catman, it's all cool.

I too read a good bit of these forums out there and have come to ride the line between the Chicken Hawks and Sleeping Rabbits. I can read a chicken hawk and know they are new and nervous and Katrina Fatigued.

I am reserving any definative statements, but I don't feel all too comfy about things. After this thing gets moving off Haiti, things will become sharper in image. I thought Gustav stalling would throw model consensus wide, but this morning it didn't do that. We'll see.

No more arguing about, just be vigilant.

NAVO is the largest group of oceanographers in the world.. NOGAPS runs on systems there and released by FNMOC. I beleive NOGAPS is the only one people here may understand since its used on most major websites. The rest of the models I think would be too confusing to list.

This is all fine and dandy. Until the track becomes concrete and not conjecture, I will plan on going to the game as well as packing up my family (again). Either way, I am prepared.

Jindal is shittin' a brick right now. According to Yahell, he's considering starting evac procedures on Thursday.

In the event the game is canceled due to Gustav, the game could be played by moving North Texas to November 15th (where both LSU and N.Texas have an open date) and App. State has an open date on September 13th. I wonder if N. Texas would go long with it?

The Appalachian State Game will not be canceled. The storm is too far away. Only game that may be affected, and that's a big may be affected, would be the Troy game on Sept 6.

It can be cancelled if New orleans is getting evacuated. No reason for the new governor to risk another frickup like Katrina. And an LSU game is the last thing on their minds right now.

as much as i agree with this, i disagree with this. yes, peoples lives are more important than an lsu football game. BUT the economic impact of this game and the money it brings into the state HAS to play some kind of role into the decision.

FWIW, the evacuation part wasn't the frick up. People were told to leave but just decided to stay (hell most people who rode it out in the dome, drove there)

The frick up was the post storm response.

QUESTION: Since we know from Katrina that the levees most prone to fail are the narrow ones that line the canals, is the plan for a future storm, such as Gus, to close off the entrance to the canals at the lake? Didn't they install doors on the canals that could close them off from the lake. I realize this would mean no pumping of rain water during that time but it seems that water from rain is much more desirable than Lake New Orleans part 2. Anyone know what the plans are with regard to this?

The Corps has put gates on the outfall canals along lake pontchatrain. They also have pumps at the outfall gates to remove the rain water and pump into the lake. I know this because we installed the electrical package for the generators and pumps. The system works remotely from a comand center and is maned with personel in safe at the canals as well.

I'm surprised how many people on the board are so confident that the game will be played. If the storm is heading out way as of Friday morning, Jindal will have to order an evacuation. Contaflow will begin on Saturday I think. We can't play a game in that.
