So who was the other amazing player that was once committed?
Julian Phillips and that other guy who ended up at Auburn? I’m pretty sure we were still in for a highly rated player or two in the Spring signing period also.

Efton Reid is still not a good player and Miller was way overhyped. Murray, Gaines, and Fudge I agree with and would have been good foundation pieces to build on.

Reid is averaging 8.6ppg, 8.8rebounds, 1.6 blocks per and shooting 90% from the FT line. Pretty good

Football
Baseball
Women's Basketball

I think McMahon is a good coach and knows what he is doing, but the problem is that men's basketball is down the totem pole when it comes to NIL money and money for facilities.

Julian Phillips I believe averaged 8 p and 5 r at Tennessee. Not sure who ended up at Auburn, but the hype for that class had us on the verge of a Final 4, which was clearly overhyped. It for sure wasn't even Wade's best class. Hindsight being 20/20, we wouldn't have been much over .500 last year.

He has looked good this year. He is a much different player. But you would have to credit a lot of that to his time at Gonzaga and a good compliment of players at Wake.

Having any pg in the country other than Juice hill probably nets the team one or two more wins.

Correct. He was a 5 star who is already in the NBA which makes him a pretty giant oversight in your other post.

Yeah, but nothing that was replacing Eason and Days and launching LSU to a championship run like Wade fans would have you think. Wasn't even Wade's best class as the poster in this thread said.

And those players were probably gone pecans once we got the NOA.

ETA: Mike Williams is averaging 8 pts and 2 rebounds.

No one has claimed this. You’re creating straw men to shite post against Wade, which is no different than the people you’re always crying about who do the same to McMahon.

You should search back to when the guys decommitted. They absolutely were convinced that the class was all that. The one guy in this thread is claiming it was Wade's best class yet.

Based upon what exactly?

First, I wouldn't have hired McMahon as HC to begin with and said so at the time...not here since I didn't have an account back then...but elsewhere. But since Woodward made the mistake of hiring the guy, I can point out one huge problem...**recruiting**. As I said in another post on another thread today, he is getting the equivalent of low 4* players at best. I hate to use the recruiting services ratings but I don't have my own like I do in football. Having said that:

2023 class - Chest, Williams, Collins, Baker, Cook, Wright are all low 4* guys, Dean not even rated
2024 class - Miller and Givens low 4*

And as stated in the other post I made, you basically need to multiply by 4 to get the equivalent ordinal rating as if they were on the football scale. In other words, Miller's 65th best player in BB is really like the 260th best player in football. If you don't believe or understand that translation, make it simpler. LSU had the 50th best class for 2023...31st best class for 2024 so far. That is downright pathetic and we all know that.

It's hard to defend McMahon's performance to date, but this is one area that is defensible.

His first class he signed two top 100 prospects (Reed and Ward). To put that into context, that was AS MANY top 100 prospects as the following programs signed: Texas, Auburn, Villanova, Baylor, Houston, Michigan St. It was MORE than the following programs: UConn, Creighton, Purdue, Gonzaga,

Low 4 star guys in what context? As HS recruits? If in the context of transfer rankings then LSU signed four "4 star" rated transfers. That was more 4 star transfers than the following: Alabama, Texas, Gonzaga, Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, Houston, Baylor, Tennessee, etc.

His current signing class has two top 100 prospects which, as we sit here today, is the same number of such prospects as: Purdue, Michigan St, Auburn, UConn, Creighton

If you don't believe or understand that translation, make it simpler. LSU had the 50th best class for 2023

Auburn had the 67th best class in 2023. Gonzaga the 70th. Purdue 73rd. Arizona 74th!!! Did someone alert Pearl, Few, Painter, that they are pathetic recruiters!!!!!

quote:

...31st best class for 2024 so far.

Auburn is 27th! UConn is 30th! Marquette is 33rd! Houston is 34th! Tennessee is 77th! OMG!!!! Someone please let their ADs know their programs are at risk of going down the shitter immediately because because their HCs can't recruit!!!!

You can't compare basketball to football recruiting. The rankings are much more volatile because with so few players in a class one player can drastically change an overall ranking.

Take Purdue for example...the nation's (current) No. 2 team. Here are their last five recruiting rankings:

2019 - 55
2020 - 37
2021 - 41
2022 - 30
2023 - 73

Or look at Auburn

2019 - 19
2020 - 10
2021 - 75
2022 - 20
2023 - 67

Or Houston

2019 - 61
2020 - 54
2021 - 32
2022 - 29
2023 - 24

You could make the argument McMahon has actually done a decent job of recruiting. Not Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, level good, but not bad with compared to the rest of college basketball (as illustrated above). It's getting a high ROI from those efforts that is lacking

Practicing free throws and solid passes would go a long way. They play hard but there isn't any consistency. One game Wright is on next he's off..same with Cook and Baker (although he has had 2 nice games in a row).

[quote]This is incorrect. It was quite literally gonna be his best class .

I dont know why people continue to say this, that class was only good on paper.have you even looked what those guys are doing on the court.phillps that went to tennessee was about the best one.traore did nothing at auburn, devin Ree couldnt get on the floor for an awful louisville team and is barely playing at louisana tech. Marvell allen hasnt played at all for Dayton.again tell me about this great class

Context given in the post you responded to but here is part of it. "And as stated in the other post I made, you basically need to multiply by 4 to get the equivalent ordinal rating as if they were on the football scale. In other words, Miller's 65th best player in BB is really like the 260th best player in football. If you don't believe or understand that translation, make it simpler. Also, top 100 is almost meaningless in college BB recruiting...see above. You know right that #101 is a 3* guy. 247 recruiting only has 100 4* and above guys. Once again, that IMO is the way it should be. Read my conversion above to football rankings. I have no comment on other teams other than to say LSU finished 50th in 2023 class and so far only 31st in 2024 class. That is pathetic by any objective standard. Also, transfers have a numerical rating just like HS players have.. 91.0 for example, so I simply used the same scale for them.
