It was like we completely forgot about covering him on multiple occasions.

Was it the linebackers?

That’s zone defense, man. We sit in zone, and when the QB has time they can move the zone defenders and send the TE into the vacated area.

We don’t have the talent to play a lot of man, though, so we will just have to tough it out.

That TE is actually a huge stud. He's going to probably be one of the best TEs in the country. Would depend on what play you're talking about but it was a shite the bed effort by the defense with no adjustments for sure. You can thank House for his shitty defense.

Allows CBs to sit in coverage because DL penetrates but can't finish plays giving Jefferson all day to throw and lapses to happen. Never adjust to inside blitzes to prevent Jefferson from stepping up in the pocket when his OL was holding almost every play and struggled to block LSU. I'm really tired of this dude's soft as fricking TP scheme and his shitty zone concepts that do no favors for the athleticism of guys like Harris. He doesn't attack enough, he doesn't make adjustments timely, and he doesn't mix the defense up enough with different things like man and more blitzes between. His defense is predictable. Dude sucks as DC.

Lack of talent at DB combined with having to account for a running QB.

Bwcause we can’t play zone and or had wrong zone coverage called. When guys don’t know their zone responsibilities you go back to simple calls of man on man and make them beat you. You don’t give them
Busted zones or no hook or buzz zones on the side the TE leaked out at. They basically took the top off with streaks and ran a TE corner route. A buzz zone covers that. Welp. These guys also need to know who has what. Bad awareness.

One was a coverage bust. Once KJ broke out of the pocket the DB let the TE blow bye because he thought it would be a QB run.

Like most issues with the defense a combination of players fricking up and a suspect coaching staff.

The big 60 yard touchdown was the result of 10 players doing their jobs perfectly and Zy Alexander having one of the biggest mental mistakes I can remember a guy having. He was 25 yards downfield from Jefferson with three other defenders about to make a tackle and he decided he needed to come up and leave the TE he was guarding wide open.

The two point conversion was Greg Penn just getting burned. The second big play and the second touchdown were your more classic coaching related busts. Someone was either supposed to pick him up or cover that zone of the field and just didn’t.

The key is to pressure and contain the qb.

We have dbs that aren’t sec caliber. And we aren’t helping them any by only rushing 4. Especially when this qb was mobile and could buy even more time to get guys open.

I'd take my chances versus what we're seeing now.
