Expanding from 48 (6 teams in 8 regionals) to 64 was easy. How do you expand beyond 64 without adding an extra weekend? bringing back the 6 team bracket for the regional would make it 96 teams. I think that's too far. Maybe bring in a 4v5 single elimination game on Thursday. That would add 16 teams up to 80. I wouldn't want to get rid of double elimination for any team in the top 2 seeds of a regional.

Well, they guy on the right of KP said to expand it to 72 with 32 host sites. KP then said something like, oh make the first weekend best 2/3. But the math wouldn't work out unless you had 16 teams play for 8 spots, then pick up the current format. Not sure how you expand to 32 regionals unless you swap weekends, and the super regionals becomes a 4 team bracket.

Expanding the teams up would basically render the SEC season largely useless other than postseason positioning, because all 16 teams would make it.

That'd be dumb.

Don't frick up a good thing.

A local sports radio guy has been suggesting a play-in like the basketball tournament has. Four teams at a neutral location, winner gets that last spot.

That's retarded considering the 4-team regional already stretches out your pitching way thin.

You don’t. 64 is already too many. Should be 48.

Nope, 64 is perfect in that the regional/super regionals perfectly mirror the the CWS bracket.

The 6-team regionals of yesteryear were fun to see a bunch of different teams in one location, but the execution was pretty stupid and murdered pitching staffs.
