THX for your write up, I appreciate your opinion and you saw them play.
I can't watch until the season starts and I won't believe anything until they pitch, hit, field, and run.
Thanksgiving and Christmas means baseball is right around the corner.

How do we look as a team compared to last season?
I like this team. i don't think we are number one in any one category, pitching, defense or offense but we are solid in all three with depth in all three.
We should win more Sunday games with these pitchers and have a better overall record. It's a quality class of freshmen pitchers.
Braswell and Jones coming back were really big for this years team. Those two solidify our infield and Jones on offense is huge.
The pitching depth should only help us in the post-season.
Omaha or bust.

Figured him out so much he got better stats his sophomore year I agree he was a little harder to trust but to act like he was bad is retarded.
Do his SEC stats for freshman and sophomore seasons

Guidry isn’t a Friday night starter

Many guys make the leap from the pen to the starting role. I’m having a hard time imagining Guidry as that Friday night guy, but it seems that this staff is looking at him in the starting role. The dude is a competitor. I didn’t get to see him pitch this fall but we know Jay likes him.
Paul Skenes started zero games his freshman year. Luke Holman started zero games his freshman year. Ty Floyd started zero games his freshman season. If Herring had stuck around, we know that Jay was moving him to a starter after starting only one game in two seasons.

No, because third-year pitchers hardly ever go from being not trusted in high-leverage spots out of the bullpen to Friday night SEC starters.
Third year is relative bc Guidry spent his first two years also trying to be a position player. Luke Holman was a reliever with a 5.68 ERA and 1.737 WHIP before becoming an SEC ace as a sophomore

Tbh I don’t see Guidry as a Friday night starter. That said, this fall he threw pitches at 4 different speeds consistently. This is why he’s been difficult to square up this fall.
He has a fastball that it fast enough when placed well, along with an above average slider and curve ball. If the changeup continues to develop and he can throw it for a strike at the knees he’s going to surprise some people. If he’s successful it will be because he has outstanding control and a great pitch mix.
Do not sleep on Evans and Schmidt. These guys could both pitch on weekends although I see at least one of them starting the season as a midweek guy. These two are super talented, they just need to get used to a college strike zone and get more of the edges of the plate. They are likely used to just over powering opponents but they have the secondary pitches to really command the mound.
Going to be interesting to see it play out

Nice breakdown Wild. Thanks for what you bring to the board.
Agree with others that Guidry doesn't seem to be your prototypical Friday starter. However, he has been extremely effective and the outings that I have observed this fall, he hit his spots without fail generating a lot of swing and miss.
If his spring execution follows this trend, I will not be surprised to see him as opening day starter despite his shortcomings and ability to extend.
I recall last season's practice sessions and Thatcher was given the nod the first game despite looking far from being our most dependable arm in practice (think Holman). It all worked it's way out and everything fell into place after a few weekends. I agree with your assessment on our top 7 but I think that come spring, Rizy and Williams move up higher into the conversation.

Man, looks like we’ll be taking a big step back.
Still think we’re in Omaha if we don’t pull Ack

this is why I have disagreed. In the past, he hasn't had much pitch variation between pitches. IF he can add a good change, and add it for strikes, things might be different. I'm pulling for him to do so, but not only does he have to add those pitches, he needs to be able to throw them for strikes...which we have struggled at recently.

What did Anderson’s pitch mix look like?
I felt like he was too fastball heavy last year and SEC hitters sat on that.

I am 100% confident in saying Guidry won’t be our Friday night starter
Posted on 11/26/24 at 8:50 am to N2daWild
I know players can make big jumps throughout their careers, but I can't see Guidry jumping from a late inning guy to Friday night guy in one offseason. I could be and hope I'm totally wrong on that. I kind of think that would be a bad sign if he is considered our top guy on the staff. Like others have asked, has he added pitches? Its pretty hard to be a Friday guy throwing so many curveballs.

That carried over to year two as he fell completely off a cliff his sophomore season to where he fell out of favor when it came to high-leverage situations.
Guidry was 3rd on the team in ERA, 1st in BAA, and his WHIP was 3rd among relief pitchers last year

We rantards seem to mostly be in early big agreement.
Is OP serious? I’m up for whatever. But this doesn’t “seem” right.
________
OP is a baseball guy. Rantards, not so much.

You should probably stop arguing about Guidry though. Not a good look. We get it, you like him on Friday. Most of us don't.
_____________
There is a small number of baseball posters on here that are head and shoulders above the rest. He is one of them. Most of us aren't. You are in the Most group.
I get the competitive spirit thing with Guidry, but like him in the backend. We are deep this year. Middle inning relief should be strong.

Do you know who probably has the single best pitch on the team?
Shores probably.
This would be really encouraging. He really lacked an out pitch his freshman season but obviously the talent was there. What pitch has he been developing?
