How screwed are we if the game is tight and comes down to special teams play?

I'm trying to remember something positive about ST play from previous games this year and coming up blank. I'm sure I'm missing something...

I don't know the kicker's name.
We never do talk about him on here

We have a good FG kicker. Punter, not so much.

Starzyk has attempted 11 field goals and 8 of them have been under 30 yards. This offense just doesn’t seem to stall until its goal to go. If he has to hit a critical 45 yarder, I don’t have a ton of confidence if for no other reason due to his lack of reps.

I wouldn’t say he’s even a good kicker. He’s average to slightly below average at best.

Probably not very screwed because ST has been fine this year

Wasn't trying to be negative and probably could have worded the question better.

Still, the question stands as I was thinking about how tight games can come down to ST play and turnovers.

That usually means he is solid but not spectacular.

Scott Starzyk 9-11 this year. The first was a 48-yarder in the Clemson game; the second was a 24-yarder vs. A&M. I don't recall the details of each miss. 40-for-40 on XPs. To me, he is not really a concern.

Punting is another matter. Though I think Chadwick has the ability, he seems off this year.

He’s 81% on the year and one of his misses is from under 30 yards. He’s average. We’ve had good and great kickers before and he’s not on their level. I’m really not trying to knock him but to act like he’s good is crazy. I’m not saying he’s bad. He’s average.

Edit to add that he’s currently 7th out of 15 qualifying in the SEC in fg percentage. Aka average.

We don’t have enough of a sample size to even know how good he is right now. He shouldn’t have missed any field goals under 30. He wasn’t great for Arkansas last year.

Last 5 years in FBS, the kicker’s total points, as % of team total points, avgs 23%.

LSU kicker is 21% season to date.

Just win baby!

Even the best kickers miss field goals under 30 at times. Even in the NFL. No kicker is perfect.
