How much was Ole Miss looking ahead?

A lot of us are enjoying the fact that Ole Miss struggled last night. However, I have to think that the players did not put 100% into preparation for Louisville. I expect to get Ole Miss’ best on September 19. I think the players will be completely locked in and wanting to prove they were more than just Lane’s team. All that being said, Pete is still their head coach.

Well that would be a huge red flag for their program going forward…

Biggest takeaway for me how out of shape OM was in the 4th. Kewan looked checked out too

Ole Miss wasn't looking ahead at all. The LSU game is 2 weeks away and to start the year in prime time against a legit opponent -- that had Ole Miss's full attention.

If Mississippi was truly looking ahead, then this is negative indictment on their coaches. It's game one on national television as the only game being played. They were not looking ahead, that is simply what they are.

Yes. Poor coaching leadership. I am convinced they were looking ahead. They are not as bad as they looked last night.

If that’s the case, then they need to change coaching staffs

They have Chambliss and he alone can win a game or two the Rebels should not win. However, Golding has struggled in his game as a HC being the HC while trying to "also" be the DC. It is a tough balance and in his games doing both, they allowing over 35 points a game.

They are who they are.
They are just running the same systems and program structure as Kiffin did…and would be foolish not to.
It was surprising how bad their defense looked after investing so much in it. Once the Louisville QB stopped pissing down his leg, they shredded OM. Louisville special teams also cost them a minimum of 10 points.
As long as they have Chambliss, they are a threat.

New year, Kiffin and Weis were at Ole Miss last year. New coaches changed thing up at both LSU and OM. One looks like a mess and one looks like they took a huge leap forward.

Not at all, they're just not as good. Chambliss is gonna have to carry that team if they want to win anything significant this season.

You can't fix fitness issues mid-season. It's going to be a long long season for them. The defense and Oline are trash.

I don’t think they were looking ahead. I think that since Golding has been head coach they are giving up over 30 points a game to power 4 schools who have been good but not great offenses. I think it’s just who they are. Last year the offense gave them a chance to win any game. I don’t think they will have that luxury when they face a team that can shut down Alexander.

Objectively, I'd be worried if I was an Ole Miss fan.
Looking ahead/shaking off the rust: yeah, you can say Chambliss settled in and got rolling. He looked good in the 2nd half, and he throws the ball 20-25 yds downfield as pretty as any QB in college. That seems like it's his sweet spot.
Running game looked meh, and Lacey looked either out of shape or hurt. I'd be very concerned about that.
Biggest problem for be would be- Kiffin built an offensive juggernaut, there's still pieces in place. Fine. When he left they promoted the defensive guy... and the defense looked like complete dogshit. Even early when Louisville's QB was sucking, there were guys running open that he missed.
Louisville tweaked the run game and got it rolling, and their QB settled down. Ole Miss never adjusted, they had to outscore them. Ole Miss loses if not for a couple terrible mistakes by Louisville.
That offense is going to graduate or go pro, and they will be stuck with a defensive guy whose players don't know how to cover.
