First season, not second.

This is what I can't fathom. Both previous years the team has gone on to find success, but why on Earth does he look so lost in an opener that he has had all summer to prepare for?!?

This right here. Even under miles we would come out and just bludgeon the shite out of out of conference opponents in those opening week games for most of his tenure.

LSU is now an embarrassment after two 10-3 seasons but wasn’t after a 5-5 and then a 6-7 season?

Can someone make that make sense to me?

He has 10 year/$100 million contract that is 90% guaranteed. So just do 90% of whatever time he has left.

I see Kelly as a guy whose ceiling is about 10 wins.

He averaged 11 wins at Cincy.

He averaged just under 11 wins his last 5 seasons at ND.

He may just be too old.

Or has college football changed so much, the "old" skillset has largely expired or is irrelevant?

BKs contract will set this program so far behind, like Jimbo did Aggy

Like it or not, BK's contract is now the norm.

I don't think he's gonna destroy the program though.

oh no not at all. he will maintain at least a les miles program7, 8, 9, 10 wins a year. was expecting multiple titles. not so sure now. he has holes and flaws in his coaching that never seem to get fixed.

i know one thing if this guy cannot win a natty when two retards won nattys here it is a real BAAAAAAAAAAD look. especially with a damn 12 team playoff? miles did it with NO PLAYOFF and ogre with a 4 teamer.

He has also had new coordinators 2 of the 3 years, and last year, and a lot of the defensive backs were transfers. His first year he was starting several freshman/rs sophomores on the Online that needed breaking in, and even this year played what.. 11 freshmen? His teams finish strong because they grow together. I think the issue is playing a rank team to start the season instead of starting out against Southeastern or someone.

Three years ago Corch Urban Meyer was radioactive. Is that still the case? I'm not expecting, or really even wanting, a change but UM would be the top name. I think he's 60?

I've been as critical of the Brian Kelly as one can reasonably be and this is silly, both in its unbridled criticism of Miles (particularly early Miles) and suggesting that Kelly has done anything like a 7 or 8 win season in a long, long time (2016 was the last time Kelly didn't lead a 10-win season.)

Miles had 2 eras - effectively 2005 to 2011 and then *ahem* "post-1/9".

First era: Miles was 75-18 - that's 80% win, brother.

Second era: All those wins (except the 2 he coached in 2016) have been vacated, but clearly not the same performance. For the full seasons he coached for that era, he led a little over 9 (vacated) wins per season.

Folks want to believe that last 4 1/3 seasons with Miles defines the entire era. If anything, the off-the-field stuff is worse for his legacy, in my mind, because the first 6 seasons was fantastic LSU football. 1/9/2012 was the equivalent of a terror attack on the program. (LSU would not recover from that attack until 2019.)

So, IMHO, if you want to be taken seriously, stop talking about Kelly as a 7-or 8-win coach. It isn't true and it hurts your credibility.

What he isn't (yet and maybe never) is a Championship coach. That's fair. Ostensibly that is the reason he came here. Realistically, the harshest judgement should be reserved for the 2025 team, because that is effectively 100% on him at that point. If the assistants haven't worked out by then? BK. If the players aren't here by then? BK.

2024 is the last year he gets a modicum of a pass, IMHO. He has also improved the team after a disappointing opening loss in both of the first 2 seasons, so there is a basis for optimism.

I think the 12 team playoff makes it almost impossible for Kelly to win it all. You think a guy who can't win One big game is gonna be able to win 3 or 4 big games in a row?

It'll be much easier for him to make the playoffs now. But, he has a lot of work to do in order to prove he can win one playoff game, much less all of them.
