Tiger fan since 1982.
I could, however, be ostracized for actually pulling for USC in the late 70's. I saw the light by the time I reached puberty.
Geaux Les, Geaux.

My first LSU game was against Florida in 2003. I have only been a fan since 2002 (that is when I started following college football). So maybe that makes me a BANDWAGON fan. I'm only 28 so maybe that makes me a CHILD. Either way, I haven't missed a game since 2002 and don't plan on missing any games for as long as I live. I can't help I became a fan of the team a year before the 2003 national championship. I don't think there is anything wrong with people expecting to win every game - what the hell else do you play for (not to lose the last time I checked). I commend all you "true" fans that made it through the 90's. I wish I could give you all a cookie. But since I can't, I'll just keep on supporting and cheering for LSU as a young, bandwagon fan.

You're officially excommunicated from the church of LSU if you rooted for USC to beat the Tigers in the 1979 game.

Oh yeah - South Stadium, 1986-87.

1982...freshman year....LSU vs Oregon St.

I lived in South Stadium dormatory. Attended games since the early 80s. You would also consider me to be very positive about this program. Back then we looked for a few big wins but we weren't anywhere near the level that we are now.

The312,
I know it. But I was young! And had no solid male role models to coach me! Friends weren't helping either! We all watched pro teams.
Can I say a few "Hail, Mary's"?

You are missing the point. Long timer doesn't mean "true" fan. Short timer doesn't mean "bandwagon" fan.
The point is that it was really lean for a long time and people who are short timers OFTEN don't appreciate what we have and complain if we don't have 10 wins every year.
It's not the expecting to win that is bothersome. It is the entitlement mentality. There is an ebb and flow. In every sport in every school.

Priorities my friend. It's not like you absolutely have to eat EVERY day.

Yeah, only young kids who don't know losing hate the fact that Les Miles is a terrible coach who is slowly but surely running this program into the ground! Stupid spoiled kids.

Enduring the Hallman years was your pennance. Trust me, your are completely absolved of your youthful sins. Well, at least the ones pertaining to LSU football.

1955 as a 11 year old with my dad - kept his 4 tickets - still have them - get raped every year by the TAF.

I have. But it doesn't mean I am willing to settle for the way things were pre-2000. Les Miles sucks balls and needs to be shite canned.

Yeah, um, OK man.
In the eighteen years since the SEC initiated a championship game, a team with a 5-3 SEC record has won the title exactly once (2001 LSU). Hence, based on historical data, if LSU finished at 5-3 in the SEC each and every year, it could expect to win an SECCG about once every two decades! That is the definition of mediocrity. I doubt any honest LSU fan would be happy with that outcome.

Yeah, it was a time ago, but I remember being so excited when we upset a top opponent, or were ranked in the top 10. And now, with the Tigers and The Saints, these are the days!

I actually do understand and somewhat agree. Its just hard for me to see how even long time fans can be alright with our performance over the last few years considering the talent we have. Even the long time fans had to have gotten used to the dominance from just a few years ago and expect it to continue. Maybe not...I really only posted because I get tired of being called a "bandwagon" fan because I've only been around 10 years. But as with every season, I start this one with huge amounts of optimism that we can win the SEC once again.
