How many CWS teams have lost the first game and gone on to win it all?

Have searched quite a bit on the ole Google to no avail.

I think i heard on the radio yesterday that 3 have done it since 1988

I know South Carolina did it during one of their championships. Probably more that I'm not thinking of.

I just want LSU to send someone home. That would be a success in my opinion.

Which is what is going to make our title this year that much more sweet:

Didn't we split our first two in 2009?

I believe no team has done it since the move from Rosenblatt to TD Ameritrade

Two off the top of my head recently.
Oregon St '06 Lost opener 11-1 to Miami
South Carolina '10 Lost opener 4-3 to Oklahoma

Nah. We won the first 4 games and then lost to Texas in the second game of the champ series.

Just be happy you are there, it is about being in the hunt. Baseball is a flaky game, anything can happen to any team.

In the past 34 years, only three teams have lost their opening games at the CWS and bounced back to win the championship. South Carolina did it in 2010; Oregon State did it in 2006; and USC did it in 1998. But winning the opener is only half the battle. Of the past 25 titles, 22 have been won by a team that started 2-0 in Omaha (the same three teams -- South Carolina, Oregon State and USC -- are the only exceptions).

That's actually more than I thought.
Saying there's a chance!

I started my own post and didn't see this one.
Anyway...
I just took a look at the last 20 seasons, 1995-2014. Take this for whatever it's worth.
Of the 40 teams to make the finals:
-30 won first two games
-5 won first, lost second
-5 lost first and advanced though loser's bracket
-3 lost first round and won CWS (2010 USCe, 2006 OrSU, 1998 USCw)
-2 lost by 7+ and made final: 2002 South Carolina lost 0-11, 2006 OrSU lost 1-11
-1 lost by 7+ and won final (Oregon State 06)
-0 were national seeds, lost first game by 7+ and advanced to final
So, not looking great. 5% of teams in LSU's position and neither were national seeds (and presumably favored/seen as underachievers/choking) have made the finals in the last 20 years. Here's hoping for the best.

I think ESPN said 11 all time, while the other post on this board says three since 1995.

Regardless.... none of that history applies to this team IMO. Besides, the baseball and football teams have the same thing in common and that's..... THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR!

USC lost the first one in 1998 to the Tigers, then went on to beat us twice to get into the final and win.

The only way to win this now is to start hitting the fricking ball.
