How is this baseball team this bad?

Those that follow baseball much more than I do...it seems really strange.

I know they lost a lot after their championship run, but this team has seemed to have #1 or extremely highly ranked recruiting and transfer classes every year. In the modern era, it seems really difficult for a really good coach to field a team this bad.

So what's up? Just too young? Too many guys that were highly ranked that just haven't panned out (talent misevaluation)?

This team just isn’t built to win games. We’re not scoring zero runs every game or giving up a ton of runs but our relief pitching and clutch hitting are nonexistent. This isn’t a popular stance right now but we’ve been competitive against some elite teams and we’re just not built to win those games even if they’re doing more things well than they get credit for. We need better arms out of the pen and more true leadership to have a shot at taking advantage of the weaker schedule for the rest of the season

They're bad, but not 3-12 bad.

Historically difficult stretch to open SEC play combined with a team trying to replace generational talent and we've had all the 50/50 breaks go the other way.

We'll find our sea legs and go on a run but it might be too late by then. Our backs are to the wall and we're basically playing playoff baseball from here on out. Hope they respond.

A little bit of everything. The reason is because I swear we have lost a different way each game. It's not like last season where we needed to avoid the bullpen until X inning. I think Jay doesn't trust his players and this is what's happening.

This is all accurate.

We've had some ridiculously terrible batted ball luck. We've picked some of the absolute worst moments to have our head up our arse.

We can't do anything about the luck except hope it regresses to the mean over the rest of the season. If we just eliminate the heads up asses moments in the field and on the basepaths we will have a chance. Even with the struggling offense.

In this season, isn't a team usually what it is?

If they are doing those things all season, probably shouldn't expect it to magically change right?

We lost all our best players besides tommy and then played a lot of really good baseball teams.

were probably above average nation wide, but the SEC is the best baseball conference in the country so above average is gonna look pretty bad.

Generally yeah. I don't think you're going to magically flip a switch and everyone will be a .300 hitter.

But just not being stupid in the field and on the basepaths should be an easier fix. Errors will still happen because it's impossible to make every play. But just stop being dumb. Stop sprinting back on a flyball to shallow centerfield and taking yourself out of the play. Stop standing straight up and looking toward the outfield for 4 seconds for a ball in the dirt you just blocked. Among other things.

Yes. This team isn’t “unlucky.” You create your own luck by doing all the small things right and this team doesn’t do that at all

If the whole squad is retooled you run the risk of another year with fricked up team chemistry and throwing away the good that can come from the struggles of some of the players.

Regardless of how we look right now, we really aren't that far off from things clicking. And there are some absolute cornerstone pieces of the future on this roster.

I think this team needed some time to gel and develop but the early season conference schedule didn’t give them that, now they’re in too deep of a whole and seem to have lost all confidence. That’s my copium at least

You are what your record says you are. They earned 3-12.

I’m convinced that there isn’t a lot of “want to” on this team. I met someone when I was traveling who is a relative of one of our coaches. She told me that the coach thinks these kids are not bothered by losing. Then you look at Travinski getting thrown out because he didn’t think he had to run hard, and it starts to make sense.

Guess im ok with letting the season play out before we crown their arse. If we're 6-24 5 weeks from now, then sure.

This. All the talent in the world can't make up for inexperience. This will be a very good baseball team next year if JJ can keep most of the team intact during the offseason.

Honestly the lineup is extremely mild to mid

They can't hit for average, can't do small ball, can't do situational stuff right

Just a bunch of dudes that happen to play baseball up up and down the lineup
