How important is this series for Coach Mainieri?

Everyone knows Paul is the best regular season coach in the buisness. However, the post season has left a little bit to be desired. If we lose this weekend it will be 2 trips to Omaha in 6 years with only 1 win. At the same time we have been a national seed in all 6 years. Going 2/6 at the Box is not what LSU baseball has been used to. Am I wrong for thinking this is pretty close to a must win for CPM?

It's not a MUST win, considering he just signed a new contract less than a year ago. But, I could see LSU fans starting to get antsy if he doesn't make Omaha. That said, we take this weekend in two games...

No, because he's not getting fired.

But, for his own sanity, he can't lose to Cannizaro.

Of course he won't be fired any time soon. But the fan base might crank up the heat if he loses

Important enough if it means a ticket to Omaha.

Like it was for Les Miles, this is THE Year. Needs to make Omaha. Won't get fired if he doesn't, but it's big. I think PM is an excellent coach.

If he left a little to be desired, he would have accomplished much.

I'm one of the more shameless PM defenders there is and I'd definitely get antsy. This team's expectations for me at the beginning of the year were Omaha and they remain so. State is an inferior opponent and we should beat them. And I believe we will.

It's very important. It's not a good look to lose to the guy who is going to replace you

In terms of active coaches, his accomplishments are on par with everyone else, if not better than most.

Agree but OP is trying to knock Pawl for no post-season success yet he says there is little to desire.

No set of probabilities exist now that will have CPM fired at LSU. He will serve out his contract unless he decides to retire.

Agree. Win SEC regular season and tourney. In Super Regional with team on a roll. Even if we dont make it to Omaha or dont show well there, he had a good season. Midweek losses suck but they are part of "the process"

He's in year one of a big 7 year contract and he just won the SEC. Ed Ogeron has a hotter seat than PM and he hasn't even coached a full season as LSU's permanent HC. In terms of job security, this series is in no way a must win.

Mainieri must be fired immediately in anticipation of any loss for the rest of his career.

It's only important to the idiots on the rant. This doesn't effect (affect, I forget I'm old) CPM.

4 returning seniors who would be getting paid to play but chose to come back for a shot at a ring.
it better be damn important.
at this point I will say it will be shameful to miss Omaha
