When I first started at LSU (I'm from out of state so didn't grow up a tiger fan) I was obsessed. I read about histories and old games/teams/players all the time. Now I feel as though my passion has tempered a bit. I'm not sure if that's just part of getting older and having more going on in life/mediocre teams the last few years. Anyway I'm bored at work on Good Friday so figured I'd see what the rant had to say...

I've mellowed out as I've gotten older as well. I don't like the idea of getting extremely mad at a bunch of kids for not being as good at sports as I'd like them to be. So to the extent I do get annoyed, it's usually with coaches (O, Les, Johnny Jones, etc.). Though even then I just kinda roll my eyes and then move on.

I’m the same way. Just part of me growing older I guess.

Was discussing this topic the other day with my friend.

As a student went to all of the football games along with most basketball and baseball games. Even as a student we'd make at least one road trip for football. Even did a baseball trip to Auburn one year. Used to get hype for the out of conference neutral site games but I don't have much of a desire to dump the money on tickets, plus transportation plus food/bev. And when I first relocated to Houston I was going to every single home game then it became just the SEC games and now just one or two.

Les Miles kind of ruined me deep love for it. Coach O has done some things to win it back. Still not where it used to be

I'm a lot tougher now so I fight opposing fans more than I ever did before.

The enthusiasm has not waned in 60 years. I no longer feel anger at a loss because of a player mistake, only at the typical SEC officials; some thing will never change.

I am considered by many, a student of the game, not just a fan, so I often sit at the pub and wonder if we are watching the same game. Then I remember my emotions were about the same as the youngsters that are screaming at a coach & player.

Guess if I had to sum it up it one sentence, “I understand and appreciate the game & those that play so much more today”, win or lose,

Just part of getting older. Same here. It’s disappointing on one hand but a relief on the other that you’re not so consumed with it.

I've mellowed a lot too. Hit my peak as a student...I feel was sky high walking around campus the week after a W and the losses really hurt to the point where I didn't even want to see a Reveille on Monday...I still have a ton of emotion, especially for division games....but life goes on a lot quicker these days

I've tailed off on football. I always liked LSU but the 03 championship was when I was a HS freshman. I was obsessed from that point until 1/9.

Baseball and basketball are totally different animals. My mom is a HARDCORE baseball fan and it rubbed off on me. I try to watch every game I can. Dad was a huge Daddy Dale fan so while basketball isn't my favorite, I've steadily followed the team. We went to the sweet 16 game against Duke together.

ETA: I'll still go over to my dad's and watch every football game but I don't really care anymore. I go into it expecting a cluster frick.

When it comes to football....

I became a fan in the early 90’s and worshipped the likes of Todd Kinchen, Chad Loup, Wes Jacob and Darrel McCorvey. I always thought we were a great team even if a 2-9 1992 record said otherwise. Then during the DiNardo era I really started paying attention to the broader landscape of CFB and how LSU compares to the rest of the SEC/Nation.

It wasn’t until my family moved to Austin in 98 that I started to become more negative about LSU football...and that’s just because I had a lot of UT fans annoying the crap out of me about how they were “going all the way.” So every time LSU played, my adolescent mind was always comparing them to Texas and if they were ever ranked lower, I was annoyed. When LSU won and Texas lost-those were my best days.

Now that I’m in my 30’s I like to think I’ve weathered my expectations and realized this is a game and LSU is what it is. I get frustrated with things like 1/9 or Troy as any fan would, and I want us to win championships, but in the end it’s just football. All you can do is cheer and hope for the best, celebrate the wins and lament the losses. But through it all, I’m proud to be an LSU fan, and always will be.

Thankfully I have scaled back a good bit now that I’m in my early 50’s. I don’t stay mad for a week when we lose in football anymore. It’s not worth it. Too many good things in life to focus on instead of the results of one game.

I don’t allow 22 collegiate athletes on a football field to dictate my weekend or mood.

I've started to realize last year, in football...we aren't what we once were. It kinda sucks entering a season where we literally can't compete for a National Championship after so many years, knowing if we got the right break, we could

Does a win make you happy? Does a loss make you sad? If you feel none of those emotions after a game, then IMO you’re not a good fan. No offense.

What John Brady did for my passion for LSU basketball, Les Miles did for my passion for LSU football. Smoke Laval did it for baseball but Paul Mainieri rekindled my passion for baseball.

This isn't a personal attack at all. I hope you can come to realize how stupid this statement is. You actually let the coach ruin your love for LSU football?

I moved to Baton Rouge in early 80's from West KY. I went to a small OVC school instead of UK so I was not a big captive fan of a particular major Div I school except for UK BB (state religion). I was tickled pink to get to see major college football games in person and even bought season tickets to LSU Basketball with a couple buddies.

Over the years I became enthralled with LSU Football and watched Bertman develop the baseball program to a national powerhouse. Now 35 yrs later my kids went to LSU and graduated and we are Tigers (but I have never abandoned my UK BB teams).

I wont say I have mellowed though. I follow the game much more closely but I have just gotten wiser and tuned my expectations to my observations.

Geaux Tigers!
