"New Years Day bowl" is from decades ago, and meant one of the big 5 bowls: Rose, Orange, Sugar, Cotton, Fiesta, which were all played on Jan. 1.
There are so many bowls now that merely because they're played on Jan. 1 or 2 doesn't mean they're a good bowl.
Now, "New Years 6" are the big bowls, and means Rose, Sugar, Orange, Cotton, Peach, and Fiesta.
Merely because we're playing on Jan. 2 doesn't mean it's a top-tier bowl game.

2...for all that was on the table before the ATM game...its a 3rd Tier bowl and a 3rd tier team...which doesn't set LSU up for a good game.
