I was never a big fan of Aranda, but that has nothing with my opinion of him as a head coach. I wish him the best, but I just find it hard to think he will be successful simply because of his personality. He's an introvert, not a big fan of recruiting and has never been in front of the mic addressing boosters, reporters and fans. I've spoken to numerous LSU fans and everyone of them said they've never heard him speak, and up until about two weeks ago, I was in the same boat. I heard him give a fun, lighthearted 30-second interview about his favorite food to eat and that's when I learned he was Mexican and I think he said his favorite food was tacos. He seemed so quiet and reserved. I hope he is tremendously successful but his personality leads me to believe that he may not be the best head coach. Again, I hope I'm wrong!

He will do as good as you can at Baylor.

He's not head coach material. He'll be a defensive coordinator again within five years.

The big 12 is about offense and he knows nothing about offense

Sour grapes. He’ll do very well imo. Probably the best coach in the big 12

I agree with you 100% in your assessment. And the few times he has been quoted it is a rambling incoherent mess. Very good defensive coordinator, though.

Maybe the person that knows a lot about defense in an offensive conference will be the one to make some noise? Just a thought.

The offenses they run in the big12 can be pretty successful with marginal talent. If he can bring in the right offensive staff, he’d be ok there. I think his defenses would do great in the big12 HOWEVER, he’d need to recruit lights out on the defensive side of the ball to get there and I’m not sure he’ll be able to do that. Jmo

It's just crab barrel mentality in this fanbase. Bunch of people saying that Brady's going to be a failure without Burrow. Now Aranda's going to be a failure without LSU's athletes.

Don't we want former assistants to do well? That's how you get more talented assistants. I don't know why people can't just wish our coaches well.

I think it's silly for us to think because he's introverted and more calculated he won't do well. Coaches are usually boisterous, confident guys that need a lot of attention but that doesn't mean all of them are.

Have you heard how the players talk about him? Every defensive player and coach has nothing but respect for Aranda and recognize his genius. Just because most people on this board need to run their mouth doesn't necessarily mean that is what earns respect.

I don't know how Aranda will do. If his career thus far can give us any insight into how he will do in a head job, I think he'll be just fine.

I bet he does. Baylor was very good in the Big12 this year largely in part to their defense. Aranda has pieces to work with there, and if he get can the offense going, Baylor is all of a sudden a front runner with OU year in and year out.

Can't help but feel bad for two teams: Texas and Texas A&M.

Texas had an opportunity to make splashes with Herman this year and failed miserably. Maybe they can turn it around next year, but I don't think anyone believes in that cupcake coach anymore.

Texas A&M solely because if they never left the conference they may be the second best or best team there. Now they're stuck paying their head coach 100m to lose to Saban, Orgeron, Malzahn and now maybe even Kiffin and Leach. God forbid they lose to Pittman.

It will be interesting to see. I'd say his coaching style would be like Chris Peterson's. Where he is a laid back but well-respected coach. I think Baylor is a fantastic 1st head coaching job for him and wish him the best. No doubt his defense will be good, but can he find a good offense and can he recruit.

Didn’t Brady start as a defensive assistant? A different perspective allows one to see things in different ways.

What makes a great defensive coordinator is one that understands the ins and outs of a great offense. I think Dave will do a good job, he just has to surround himself with good coaching. The question is can he teach the fundamentals/technique to a good offense. That's when he will lean on a good OC.

, a college D Coordinator knows nothing about offense.
