Hard to make the playoffs in the sec when your starting corners are Duce chestnut , Denver Harris and True freshmen Ashton stamps after zy went down. Also had Andre Sam and major burns at safety. Was legit the least talented lsu backend in recent memory.

Blame House if you want to, but our talent up front was pretty good (3 DL and Speights made NFL rosters, we had Swinson,Guillory, Harold, Whit, and Savion as well). OTOH, our DB talent (IMO) was substandard.
But all the blame lies with BK.He had 32 years of HC and couldn't see thie train wreck coming in Spring/Fall. And he's the one who hired the coaches that we now take comfort in blaming.

Because there were only 4 spots.
We easily made the 12 team playoff.
The craziest part about house was that he was actually pretty decent in 22. Made great halftime adjustments and defense carried when the offense couldn’t.
We lost key secondary players and depth and I guess House’s full attention. So frustrating.

Might want to look again at that NFL talent comment.
None of our DRAFTED defensive players have contributed this season. All 3 of your defensive lineman have been healthy scratches for more games than they have played in.
Our best NFL talent for this year was undrafted.

Ultimately, you have to blame House. Or Kelly. Or simply, Fate.
We had a competent defense in 2022. Put that defense on 2023's team, we probably go 11-1 and make the playoffs, maybe win it all.
2023 had a better, deeper DL. 2023 honestly had a better LB group. The secondary, personnel-wise, wasn't a big drop-off from 2022.
Losing Jimmy Lindsey (DL coach) just before the season, along with Greg Brooks (our expected safety) at the same time, started the dominos falling. That talented DL was completely uncoached; which then pulled coaching away from the other groups.
Linebacker- you had Harold Perkins, a preseason All American. You had Omar Speights, a portal guy who was All Conference Pac 12 ***and is starting in the NFL as a rookie***.
It looked like the only coaching they got was- "you guys are starting Saturday". What's the gameplan, Coach? "I told you- you're starting. Go make plays".
The secondary- Duce is the prime example. He's short, he can't cover an elite 6'4 WR in tight man coverage the way we tried against Fla State. That's fine, he can do a lot of other things (and he did get a pick that game). And if someone knew what they were doing, you could have made that group solid, if unspectacular. Dallas Turner did a dirty play to take him out of the game as Jaylen was attempting a comeback drive. So I'm hoping he gets several concussions in the NFL.

wut? So you’re saying our Defense was “pretty good” because they made NFL rosters? Our defense was horrendous, the worst in LSU history. Those players played like shite, had terrible stats and lost LSU games they should have won.
Just because a player makes an NFL roster doesn’t mean they played well here. And it certainly doesn’t mean the coordinator was good, it actually proves the opposite.
Don’t believe me then do your own research. The DC was trash, those players played like trash, it’s just a fact. What they did after LSU means nothing to the question in the OP.
They are the reason we didn’t make the playoffs, the end.

Brian Kelly defensive hires: House a subpar dc that should have never been here with what we can offer. He hired two absolute arse db coaches that every single place rated as piss poor and can’t recruit, then the only good d hire he made in year 1 got mad and left and he made another terrible dline hire who then got sick. His defensive hires until last year were all Fs other than Cain

He didn’t start out the gates. Also, this thread is about LSU not making the playoffs, not what someone has done in the NFL.

BK massively under-recruiting at the DB and DL position screwed us just as bad if not worse than having House as DC.

You cannot convince me that Turner’s hit wasn’t intentional and that Saban wasn’t behind it. We were still very much in the game when Jayden was playing and still had a shot at winning it.
