How did the Tigers miss on Travis Swaggerty?

He played high school ball at Denham Springs, right in LSU's back yard. He ends up going to South Alabama and was drafted 10th overall in the MLB draft last night. Anyone have any insight as to why he didn't become a Tiger?

Was a late bloomer I heard. Mainieri went on record saying he was one of the biggest misses in recruiting for the program. This happens to most programs nit just LSU. I remember Ben McDonald saying the same thing and he is connected to the Denham Springs program since he is a legend there

He’s probably over 5’8” and probably weighs about 190 - doesn’t fit into our scheme

We weren’t the only ones to miss. It appears that his last three were USA, UNO and SLU.

Everyone missed on him. As far as I can tell he developed late, but schools wanted him as a pitcher. He was a closer in high school.

He didn't want to be a full time pitcher, and South Alabama was the only school that gave him the opportunity to be an everyday guy.

I view this more as good fortunes for South Alabama than a bad miss by LSU.

Everybody missed on him. Watch out for South Alabama too! They are building a top notch program there!

A stupid attempt at a joke is more like it.

Swaggerty was undrafted out of high school

Bohm, the 3rd overall pick, was undrafted out of high school

Almost like it's hard to project 18 year olds and certain guys develop later than others or something

Not everything is a "miss" for LSU. Some guys just slip through the cracks.

The whole process is flawed.

Kids start committing before their junior year of HS when they are 15 or 16. They sign before their senior year. A lot can happen in that year or two years. Kids quit growing, others have a growth spurt, some level off and others like this kid explode and are overlooked.

There are tons of prospects who come on relatively late.

You can see that with Mize and all the others mentioned.

In HS the DS kid was a stud. Why he didn't get more attention is puzzling. He had a gun in RF, and was their closer throwing around 90.
He had very good speed, a good left handed bat with power and played 5A ball.
