Preseason rankings are irrelevant. Same with football. Rankings shouldn’t come out until conference play at least

We have top 10 talent EASILY, the highest graded player in recruiting that didn't sign MLB, and a head coach that, at one point, was one of the best in the sport.

They didn't know our coach was going to have a lame duck season and ultimately be replaced. shite happens.

Preseason was based on the amount of talent we had...

Too bad a coach couldn’t put it all together

Short answer...they were wrong. Every prediction of how things may turn out with this team has turned out negatively.

The first sign of problem was that this team pretty clearly wasn't had holes defensively.

The pitching, on paper, was supposed to be significantly better than it has turned out to be. Almost immediately, the bullpen mainstays universally were underperforming. Then Jayden Hill showed pretty clear signs of not being dominant. Then he got hurt. We went from having a supposed advantage in all 3 SEC games most weekends to being in a tossup on Fri, and a disadvantage on Sat and Sun.

We currently have a staff that consists of TWO pitchers who can be counted on to perform well. Both are starting pitchers. There is nobody else.

Finally, the supposed weakness of the team was going to be the offense. As it turns out, the offense has been much worse than even the worst fears. Getting 4-5 hits in a SEC game is pretty normal for this group. It's been a disaster.

The pitching staff needs to be rebuilt, and it's going to take a while. We have a couple of decent freshman arms, but none look to be Friday night potential. Next year is going to be painful...worse than this year.

Offensively, you have a good young core. Still, the team could take a solid step forward next year and still only be average.

It's bad. I don't think anyone saw it coming.

Hey - young men! we lost our #1 pitcher, two of our relief pitchers are not up to par & a third is hurt. our top returning outfielder has been hurt.
also the scholly limit balances thing out except Vandy has an advantage because they can get 100 % financial aid!
Florida was to be #1 & fell off also.
This is not the days of Bertmen having 30 scholarships to work with!

most Skip ever had to work with was 13
early 90s is when it was reduced to the current 11.7.

same timeframe as football cutting down to 85.

polls are nonsense in general, and even moreso for pre-season polls, which are an utter absurdity.

Preseason pie in the sky rankings based on a team comprised of Freshman and Sophomores was dumb based on the talent returning across the Conference.

Because they're preseason rankings. They miss on several teams each year.

Preseason rankings, at best, are based on potential.

You had the weird last season, the impact of a limited draft last year, etc.

The players have not lived up to their potential.
