re: How could the preseason rankings be so wrong for LSU baseball?

Preseason, our starting pitching was projected to be very good to dominant and DF a reliable closer.
Now, Marceaux and Labas have been very good. Hill, even before his injury, lost the Friday night role. And DF is very shaky. I don't think preseason saw that coming.
They also didn't account for all the coaching blunders that have cost us a few wins.

Same can be said about that shitty football team O put out last year

How can some of you be this stupid and want to put it out there for the World to see?
LSU last season lost 35 players frim the UNDEFEATED NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
That is 41% of the roster. That included 14 players drafted with 5 going in the first round.
LSU changed the DC and lost Joe Brady to the NFL. LSU had no Spring Practice and a limited Fall to get a new Defense installed.

They obviously don’t account for CPM.

You may think those rankings were high but if you look at the teams ranked ahead of us you will see many of our SEC opponents.

and LSU was playing so well before we lost our top pitcher. He was just killing it before he went down. LOL

I honestly haven't paid any attention to LSU Baseball rankings in a very long time. With CPM, it's so difficult to gauge what kind of team we have. You're either going to get a dominant performance out of nowhere or you're going to get consistently underperformance.

Maybe those were pre-season conference rankings.

This is the correct answer

It's bad. I don't think anyone saw it coming.
Program Performance Declines aren't that hard to see if you're not totally blind! (And that includes all LSU Sports)

Finally, the supposed weakness of the team was going to be the offense. As it turns out, the offense has been much worse than even the worst fears. Getting 4-5 hits in a SEC game is pretty normal for this group. It's been a disaster.
We actually average 7.5 hits per SEC game. Though to your point, 8/15 games we had 4-5 hits.

Somebody was lying to lsu about their recruits all the while other major sec teams was stealing the cupboard dry with the real elite players...

Just like a political poll, nonsense. Start polls after 1/3 of the season and see what happens. You'll probable get less of the "lets put our favorite teams at the top".

We got the Duke basketball treatment. They were #9 preseason as well and didn’t even make the tournament.

A PM coached team was always ripe for this. A few injuries or misses on talent would result in a disappointing season. The team consistently underachieved under him. The man does not have the ability to teach young talented athletes to be better baseball players. He recruits talent that thrives once it leaves and finds better coaching. Dunn and Cannizaro saved him before, no one is coming this time to help. I hope he surprises me with one unselfish act and steps down at season's end for "health reasons".

Yea, let’s diminish one of the top coaches in all of college baseball history accomplishments, to prop up a coach who clearly has checked out of coaching and is on cruise control.
That sounds about right.

When was that? He had 13 scholarships. Rod Dedeaux had a lot when he was at USC, but Skip didn't.
