How confident are you that Liam Shanahan can be a starting in the SEC?

Nobody really knows until they put pads on jumping from Harvard level play to the SEC is a big step. I’m confident he’s smart enough to make the calls and he definitely has experience but I just hope he has the strength to hold up to some big arse men.

I guess I should trust the coaching staff that says he is starting

I think your question is literally O's quote from the radio.
He looks good now, but once pads go on it will be telling.

Dude is a moose. He’s good enough to start and dominate.

Pretty confident. He went from being a depth guy to starting real quick.

If he makes it through fall camp with the job then that means he'll at least be serviceable. He's going to have to deal with some tough matchups in practice.

All I know is coach O and staff have absolutely put on a clinic on using transfers to fill holes in the roster.

This. There are no Tyler Shelvins in the Ivy League.

Not many he'll be facing on Saturdays are as good or big as Shelvin either. Ika as well. If he can get through camp as the starter battling those 2 then he will be fine.

I trust the coaches and it is not written in stone -plus coaches will have ample time to watch players compete in practice

Good football players can come from anywhere. Recruiting out of HS is inexact. Some players develop later.

He’ll be fine I think. From a physical standpoint, C is the least demanding of line positions. So if he can get the snap & the calls, it’s on.

You do realize that every single day in practice he goes against Tyler Shelvin and Apu Ika huh?

I don't think he was ever a depth guy. Many people speculated on Day 1 of his transfer announcement that he would be the starting center. It just made too much sense.

That was the position of weakness, Shanahan had experience playing multiple line positions and is obviously a smart guy.

Most of the blow-back when his transfer was announced was because people were posting his freshman size, saying he was too small for the SEC. He is more than big enough now.

I think Liam will be fine strength wise, and any strength he does lack will be covered up by his technique. Plus practicing against Shelvin will bring him up to speed.

People also need to remember that LSU is no longer using that "line 'em up, knock 'em down" philosophy on the o-line. It's much more of a zone blocking which works to the advantage of linemen. He doesn't need to drive defensive linemen out of gaps. He just needs to hold his block long enough to creates creases for the RBs to slip through.

If for some reason he does need help during a game, LSU has two absolute maulers on either side of him. I have a feeling this OL is going to surprise people.

Of course. But it’s not as big as jumping from high school to the SEC. And I know it’s not ideal at OL, but we’ve had true freshmen contribute recently at 18/19–this dude is 21/22. If he can learn the calls and get the snap to the QB consistently, he should be fine. Maybe even really good.

I think OL is hard to Evaluate out of high school because most people aren’t fully developed at 18. You routinely see random guys become elite OL.

He’s a smart guy. It’s not like smaller schools hve never produced good OL. Matt Birk played for 14 year was all pro twice. Nick Easton went to Harvard.

They'll run Shelvin, Ika, Guillory at him. If he can handle them he will be good to go.
