after losing the national championship loss a few years back, I don't get nearly as emotionally invested anymore...I still go to every game and enjoy it all, but I am pretty much over it by sunday afternoon regardless of the outcome....
I think many many people feel this way.
Im over it an hour after the game, usually. Im not letting that shite ruin my night

I feel I have a pretty good balance in that I get super pumped before the season and during with wins,it's one if my favorite hobbies, but a loss doesn't affect me in my normal life. I'm usually able to shake it off early Sunday morning and move on

It is all about priorities. As I have gotten older and life's perspective has more clarity- football is entertainment-
Now I am most entertained when we beat the gumps!

The natty a few years back was a setup and we were never gonna win that game. I did not get emotional about it even while it transpired. It was a living nightmare, but it was almost like it was expected. After the way they let the opposition in to the game I expected no less of an outcome.

my (ex) wife linked it to idolatry. lol. its basically my only hobby next to running, lifting and a little bit of fishing. i dont hunt, golf or follow any other sports this passionately. everything else is just something to burn the time. i have a hard time going to sleep after a tough loss, but im over it come sunday morning. the sun shines a little brighter after a tiger win. whats just as tough, is being a recruitnik.

This.
I couldn't stop laughing after the 2012 Alabama game. Still can't believe we lost it, but I still had a great time at the game.
The only game in a while that has stuck with me was the 2011 Saints-SF game. 2007 LSU-Arkansas is a close 2nd. CFB is a little different for me than the NFL, because a loss doesn't really end your season like a playoff game does.

i literally did not watch any football coverage or espn for 4-5 months after 1-9. was literally like a death. But that was just a "sports death". i knew what what transpiring after okie st missed that fg. saw it coming from a mile away.

I choose not to think about it any longer as the 1 first down and not crossing the 50 Fuken yd line by half after rolling PAC 10 champ Oregon, Big East champ W Virginia, and Georgia among other good teams just cannot be reconciled....damn this thread as I'm all worked up again:)

LSU sports are a very big part of my life. Without them, I doubt I would live in Baton Rouge.
I love football and baseball season, but my passion spills out for basketball season. Either way, all three of those sports have a special place in my heart.

I think it's obvious when it means more for some. Those guys who CLEARLY live vicariously through these kids, both gaining self-esteem from wins they themselves did not achieve or depression from losses they themselves did not endure make me a bit sad. Unfortunately, it's those folks in all fan bases that cause most of the issues.
I love LSU football and it's been important to me since I attended my first game in 1982. I enjoy wins (I cried like a baby standing in the Superdome in January of 2004 when LSU won the national championship) and I was upset when they lost in January of 2012. In each case when the sun rose the next day life began again and things were fine.

I just asked my gf (sorry no pics) "How big is LSU football in my life?" just to see what she'd say... And I quote.
"Really big. More important than me during the season."

It used to be entirely too big. I was quite invested in it, honestly. When I worked there, especially with the team, I had an LSU room, tens of thousands of dollars in collectibles, and would proudly show off items I garnered from working with the team.
Left LSU several years ago, had kids, got a better job, and priorities changed.
1/9/12 was the nail in the coffin in terms of perspective. After multiple unsolicited encounters with disgusting Bama fans, one encounter in particular really put things in order. I can't thank that particular Bama fan, his wife, and his kids (I assume they were his kids) for that unsolicited verbal attack enough (complete with middle fingers in my face, etc). I realized during the altercation that football isn't supposed to be this "important".
I've since shied away from purchasing the 50 yard line seats I have access to, I've sold almost my entire LSU collection, minus the items I earned while working with the team, and I NEVER get worked up over games anymore. I see it for what it is: ENTERTAINMENT.
Like someone said earlier, college football is now has a corporate feel to it. ESPN running the sport does suck a lot of the life out of it.
I'd rather stay at home now on Saturdays with my wife and kids and watch the games. When they win, great. If not, so what. With Miles as coach, the game will always be entertaining. Hell, with Miles as coach, even the offseason is entertaining.

First, I look at the schedule and pick which home game I want to attend.... then I use half of my hard earned vacation days to schedule off....then I struggle to get decent hotel reservations... then I pay more for a ticket than I do on airfare (Fla last yr /$750 a tixx x3) then I get on the plane.... at the game, I let it all out... Hands hurt for a week, voice shot.... could not think of a better way to spend a fall saturday.

LSU football is a love.

Some guys hunt, fish, golf, or gamble as a passion or getaway. My getaway is LSU football. On Saturdays in the fall and winter I shut everything down and truly relax.
When LSU loses it is gut wrenching to me. When LSU wins a big game nothing is better. I usually go to 1-2 games a year (all road games) and watch the rest from the comfort of my porch.
I love that the players, coaches, and students change but the same team runs out of that tunnel and they all follow the same traditions. LSU is bigger than any one person. For the most part it's the same from generation to generation. I love that one day my son will stand and cheer for the same school from the same student section that his dad and uncles did.
As I get older the intensity comes down but still nothing comes close for me.

I love LSU football but since it's been awhile since I've been on campus it's a little bit harder to get as pumped. There's no daily Advocate with stories, no Buddy Songy, no Tiger Rag and most importantly there's no going to games and knowing guys on the team.
I was lucky at LSU in that for awhile I worked at Academic Center for Athletes when it was in Coates Hall or so. So not knowing the players makes it much less personal for me and having known players I tend to avoid the highs and lows of fans. I learned that the guys play a game and give it their all but they have other parts of their life that are more important to them like family, school, friends, girlfriends, kids, etc.
I hate it when I hear people booing the players or criticizing them when no player makes a mistake or plays poorly on purpose.

Before I had real priorities it was way up there.
Now it's middle of road somewhere behind golf and above staying out late.
Having a family and not living in BR anymore has this effect on many.

It's been a number of years since I smashed a remote or really showed my arse. Prolly when Saban was there was the last time. At 45, I'm embarrassed that I ever let something I have no control over, get me that pissed off.
But LSU athletics is one of my passions that I enjoy.
