9-3 ain’t close to a playoff team regardless of ranking
There will be 3 loss teams in the playoffs pretty regularly.

But man after taking care of Ole Miss
Losing the entire game at home to Ole Miss makes you think we have a chance at a NC?
Really?

If we win this weekend I'll feel a lot more confident
The defense has been improving each game

I don’t think so. LSU could get left out this year even if they finish 10-3 with a loss in SEC CG

Gotta get through A&M first, and if we do that you can see it starting to take shape. We can even take an L against bama and probably still get to the SECCG. Or we can drop this next one but have to win out.

At this point I think the ceiling for this team is getting one playoff win. I imagine the lack of depth would start to show in that playoff run.

I'm enjoying the hell out of this season. I wasn't worried about our first two close games because USC and SC came out looking to go to war. They played their best half against us both. We survived one and barely missed the other. We're improving week to week. Most importantly, after Texas losing, it's clear that EVERYBODY BLEEDS.
I think the juggernaut days are over, this season feels strange. There's absolutely a chance we could win a natty, albeit small. If we continue to improve, the sky is the limits, and we're trending up. I told a coworker I believe me may very well be a top 4 team.

quote:That's how every Chiefs fan felt for the majority of last year as well. But determination and never-say-die attitude (along with a pretty stout defense) sparked much joy for Chiefs Kingdom at the end of last year's season.
I don’t think we are a championship team quite yet. We’ll see in these next 2 games.
When looking at this LSU team, I don't "see" a NC-caliber team, but then again I DO see a team that has been through the grinder and learned how to win when they're down, or when one aspect of their game isn't clicking so the other aspects have to step up.
Frankly, I'm getting 2023 Chiefs-like vibes from this team. And before the arse-clowns start jumping in, I'm NOT comparing the two teams talent-wise. I'm only saying that the situation and the vibes surrounding the '24 Tigers and '23 Chiefs have a very similar mid-season feel.
I hope I'm as happy at the end of this LSU season as I was at the end of last year's NFL season. But if not, I won't be crushed.

Who won the game
Last year LSU led for the entire game and yet Ole Piss won.
Haters will always Hate, but it feels much better being a LSU Fan, than watching The Saints self destruct, or The Green Wave play Ecole Classique

Didn’t LSU finish the season ranked 13th last season?
Which is not a playoff team?? In reality with auto bids and what not you need to be top 10 to get in.
You can laugh that being 13 instead of 12 is miniscule but in this new era of playoffs its huge. NFL coaches get fired for going 9-7 and missing playoffs while others in a weaker division will get celebrated for making the playoffs and 9-7.
Similar to CFP before the 12 team playoff. No one gives a frick about #5. Top 4 are the only ones that matter.

Focus on a very good ATM team that would want nothing more than to upset LSU in front of their home crowd.

Remind me again, what was the score at the end of that game?
Not dominating a pretty good OM team for the entire game doesn't take away from beating them when the world thought we would lose - regardless of how we did it.
If anything, I think games like the OM game only make us better prepared for the grind of the rest of the season. If nothing else, the LSU team should always have that "never say die" attitude because it paid off in spades when it counted.
Plus, I'm even more confident that the OM game was a pivotal development point for LSU because the Tigers didn't come out flat the following week @Arky. The Hogs are always a pretty tough out for us, and this year we went to Fayetteville and handed them a loss that was never really in doubt. That, my friend, is progress.
So, yeah, "losing" the entire game at OM but scoring enough points to secure the win DOES, in fact, make me think we have a chance at the NC.

The playoffs are a grind if you don't get that 1st week bye... We need to keep winning so we can get a little extra time off.
Well, it's really less that one week difference.
Specifically, there are 24-25 days between the SECCG (12/7/24) and the quarterfinal games in New Years Eve/Day bowl games.
There are 20-21 days between the end of the regular season (LSU vs Oklahoma) and the first round of the playoff (where the top SEC team not in the SECCG is likely to have a home game.)
There are 13-14 days between the SECCG and the first round of the playoffs. Obviously, losing the SECCG is the worst scenario, as you lose all of the time off and might lose getting a first round home game. But, you do get another chance, which doesn't happen if you lose a CFP first round game.
While I would prefer to have another SEC Championship, I would be fine not having it and getting another game in Tiger Stadium instead.
(I reserve the right to change my opinion about this after we beat aTm this weekend.
GEAUX TIGERS!

NC, time will tell. Playoffs, yes sir. The team is progressing in ALL phases of the game, no doubt. I still believe our OFF's best games are ahead of them with a full compliment of WRs (includes T. Green), M. Smith at TE, C. Durham running the rock, and Nuss using his feet for key 1st downs. The OL is going to bully a team soon....soon.
The DEF, and especially the DEs & LBs, continue to impact games. Weeks, Swinson, S. Jones & Penn are earning every cent of their NIL $$. The DT rotation is working; I'm glad to see young guys getting reps & holding their own. With that said, the secondary coverage skills - minus Z. Alexander - are still problematic IMO. A prolific passing team will be a tough matchup.
Back half of the season should be fun to watch. Stay tuned!

With a Nuss return for SR year, we are a year away. Success and the improvements have been great this year but delusional to have sights set on a NC.
