Chavis cost LSU more success in 2013

I agree. But this thread is about the first 3.4 years of each coach.

However this season has striking similarities to 2013 so far if we're being honest.

don't think Chavis's teams had near as many missed tackles.

How many missed tackles do you remember Chavis’ teams having? I am betting you really don’t remember.

Pathetic like when they held Ga Southern to 3 points? Or pathetic when they shut out NW St in the second half? Or pathetic when they held Texas to 7 in the first half in Austin? Or did you mean pathetic when they forced Vandy to punt 8 times, and also picked the QB off twice?

We're not supposed to allow TDs or even completed passes, ever.

Was Steele really a debacle? I remember him being respectable, if not outstanding. And he seems to have Auburn in a good place now.

Aranda is a proven DC IMO, He has done a great job and deserves some slack.

LSU gave up 19 or more points in the first 10 games of the season for the first time EVER.

LSU had coverage problems all season. Plenty of blown assignments.

Your "Hot Take" is so damn subjective it is laughable.

One stat to measure the success of a defense?

In 2012, you basically punt on your base analysis and call it "good through four games."

Waste of a post and your credibility.

The 2012 defense was great the whole season.

I only used the first four games because we've only played 4 games this season, sportsfan. How does that need explaining.

You can't compare games Aranda hasn't coached yet.

Our talent and the type of offenses at that time made Chavis look wayyyyyy better than he was/is.

Chavis was the only coach to shut down Johnny football two years in a row. NFL coaches used the LSU game tapes. I shudder to think about what Johnny football in college would do to an Aranda defense.

The better question is why are some of you so determined to run Aranda down? It at least made sense when you were doing it to protect O and some others were clamoring for Aranda to take over but O is safe now, he’s done a good job so what exactly is the point of trashing Aranda now? It’s funny how DL depth was a valid excuse for losing to Troy but some how it’s it in allowing Vandy to score in a game we would have won by 40 if not for the offense giving up 2 TDs. The only really bad showing by the D was the 2nd half vs Texas. Other than that they’ve been fine minus a couple of meaningless lapses.

He had better talent up front than Aranda ever has.
