A lot of teams have done similar scheduling in non conference play

It’s never as bad as it seems and never as good as it seems
Somewhere in the middle

LSU was lights out in Jacksonville
Pitching was strong this past weekend

Monday and Wednesday was just bad baseball against two teams that historically have had decent teams

The schedule is like this every year. We don’t usually have a team wide slump.

If you told me Curiel’s food poisoning like some kind of stomach virus ripping through the team i’d believe you because how the bats completely fell off is perplexing

They did the same thing last season, so I guess he figured this team can handle it. It is a lot of baseball in a short timeframe.

The difference is that this year, we’re loaded up with higher quality teams than Purdue Fort Wayne, Omaha, and North Alabama.

Also, we usually play UL a bit later in the season and they are much better than they were last year.

In game reps help the team improve almost more than anything else does. You see offensive and defensive weaknesses in your line up as a coach and in person weaknesses as a player. That’s how you find out where to improve. You also shake out the mental side by applying a lot of pressure under the spotlight and seeing who can deliver while being fatigued. It’s worth its weight in gold to find out who can improve and perform at their worst during the time of the season that doesn’t really matter. Instead of SEC and post season play.

I appreciate what Jay is doing but it’s all bullshite. He is taking away the criticism from the players to him.

If these guys can’t handle 14 games in 3 weeks they have more problems than being tired.

I can see pitching falling off and giving up more runs but not the hitting and fielding.

I think he may lay it out in the future so that we don't play 4 days in a row like we have twice already. But in general I agree he's just laying the blame on himself and not the players in public.

We did it once his first year here and he talked about how he didn't like the set up. It's weird that we did it twice this year.

Only a good coach like Jay would admit his mistake....."thought they could handle it." Last night I saw this in the faces of all the guys on every mound visit.

Jay calling it a mistake is just a time tested personnel management strategy. It was not a mistake. Players have to be ready. A stress test can build resilience. He doesn’t want the young players thinking it’s entirely on them and he knows that he can carry blame at this point in his career better than they can, particularly when part of the goal is to protect players from media and fan criticism.

Team is burned in out in week 3?
Are you saying because it's only week 3 they can't be burned out?

What if they play 7 games in week 1 would you think they shouldn't be burned out because it's only week 1?

I like that the Coach takes the hit for the players.

So how these guys gonna handle minor league ball?

Most will not. Most do not have what it takes to advance to the next level with any success.

Not a knock on them just the reality. No difference than the culling that takes place from HS to College.

This is objective fact. Which makes it really dumb when people try to make the argument that playing in the SEC is essentially like playing AA. When the vast majority of the small percentage of SEC players that do make pro ball start their pro careers at least two levels below AA.

Absolutely 100% this. Test their metal and give the ones who didn’t shine so well a soft place to land. So they don’t get defeated mentally.

With so many new guys to evaluate, it might not be a bad decision in the end. Even with a few midweek losses

Arrambide doesn’t watch ball to bat and is on a hope mission, which fits since he doesn’t watch the ball when he’s catching.

Week 2 is exciting traveling to Jacksonville
Week 3 is just another weekend series waiting for SEC play to start

Ya - complacent is a better word than burned out.

Understandable to lose a bit of edge, when the early part of the season kicks in...
