If doing less with more was an Olympic sport he’d be Michael phelps.

It’s not just that we don’t look sharp, it’s that we are fricking up on EVERY special teams unit and the mistakes are usually the most basic, coachable issues that would be resolved if the guys were actually coached.

Show me another team that has had significant lapses on every special teams unit through 3 games?

-2 blocked FGs
-Multiple punt returns of 20+ yards
-Damn near let state house a kickoff to get back in the game. (Thank god for holding)
- kickoffs going out of bounds
-punt returners mufing balls.
-punt returners catvhing balls at the 3.
-punt returners jumping on balls unecessarily.

We have the worst special teams production we have had in years all
While having a good punter and pretty solid (so far) FG kicker.

Thus far his grade is F. Is that sufficient?

We'd be 3-0 right now if special teams play was only mediocre. I think Kelly recognizes it's a problem and gets it fixed, but unfortunately I see it costing us at least one more game before the season ends.

Honest answer. I don't know if he is the worse but I have not been impressed and they need to fix it. It has already cost us a game. He has issues on everything except field goal team which they seemed to have addressed from the FSU game.

I have a buddy that is a huge ND fan and he texted me mid game to say that he forgot to tell me that Brian Kelly's teams always suck on special teams.

I hope he is wrong but based on Kelly assigning Brian Polian as the coordinator, idk how I am supposed to argue against it.

I get that Polian is great with some of the administrative stuff but he is a liability on the field. Give him Ponamsky's old job and keep him away from the X's and O's.

I’m sure there are worse but he’s way too bad to be coaching at LSU.

Really concerned the media did not ask question during the post game presser about special teams. Polian was a disaster at ND and here its worse. Props to Culotta for mentioning it and going into detail on his show.

It is embarassing not to have playmakers and guys who can tackle and have speed on special teams, then you factor in lack of coaching and people constantly in wrong position.

I see Kelly holding everyone except his two buddies accountable. Denbrock and Polian are the weak links in this coaching staff.

He better because that is some of the worst special teams, all around, that I've seen. Notre Dame fans maybe a little more lenient and willing to budge than LSU. That shite simply won't fly here, especially when it is costing us games.

FWIW, they say Polian is a great recruiter. Can anyone confirm/deny that?

This is the answer. Move him to a personnel position and hire a ST coordinator. I have been incredibly impressed with Kelly's ability and willingness to make adjustments with players and scheme. 3 games in and the one area that remains a glaring weakness is ST. We fix FG blocking and catching punts and then coverage collapses. Clayton can make a fair catch, but is not a dynamic returner.

Offense and defense are showing game to game improvement. I don't want to see ST cost us another game.
