naw you are a failure. it has been laid out ad infinitum what we had to deal with this year. You are too fn stupid to see it.

This just isn’t true, personnel-wise we should have been better, or at least more consistent. Failure

It's a new world with the NIL and the 4 Big Conference paying athletes, Players won't be loyal with money involved so movement will be constant. For any program to be dominate year in year out will be incredibly hard.

Our goal should be to host a Regional every year. But it is unreasonable to EXPECT to host one every year, IMO.
It's unreasonable for most programs to expect that, but LSU isn't most programs. We like to boast that we're the premier team in the sport. If you're going to talk the talk, you have to walk the walk, otherwise it's pathetic.
SEC should have 4-5 hosts every year. LSU should expect to be top 4 in the SEC every year.
Is it unreasonable for UConn and Duke to expect to be at least a 4 seed in March Madness annually? Is it unreasonable for Alabama and Ohio State to expect to be in the College Football Playoffs?
I don't think so, and LSU baseball should hold themselves to the same standard.
Southern Miss and East Carolina expect to make a regional every year. We're supposed to be better than that, so expecting to host would be the next tier.

Make the post season. Make it to Omaha on the pace that Skip did and win natties at a bit less % than Skip did.
By the standards being placed on JJ by the idiots on this board, Skip would have been fired in 92, not making it out of the regionals, after he failed to repeat after his 91 championship, even though that team won the conference tourney and regular season SEC championship.

If he wins that title in 2013 or 2015 instead of 2009, then the anxiety doesn't build in the immediate aftermath of losing in 2017.
If he doesn’t win the title in 09, does he make it to 13 or 15?

Good answer.
I would say making the tournament and playing in a regional is our acceptable floor. Hosting is great, a super is better still, and the CWS is what it's all about.
PS - props to LSU Eunice for winning their eighth D2 natty!

Some people in this thread and others keep crying about how unrealistic this fanbase is. However, if like these dominant programs in other sports listed above, LSU wants to be consistently among the top 3-5 college baseball programs, then the expectations have to match that. frick mediocrity and excuses and do what’s necessary to get there.

Nobody is saying to fire Jay Johnson right now, he IS coming off a national title.
But this year should be considered sub-par, below expectations, and it shouldn't be treated like a success. We finished 13-17 in the SEC, and on the road in a regional, after starting the year ranked #2. That's not where we want to be, and it shouldn't be accepted as the baseline of the program going forward. If we don't make a run in the SEC tourney, we're a 3 seed; if we don't sweep Ole Miss in addition we may have sat home.
There's nothing wrong with expecting a season on par with, say, UGA's: you enter the final series comfortably hosting, with nothing left to prove. UGA got a national seed despite losing 2 of 3 to Fla, and going 0-1 in the tourney. And they weren't even in the mix for the SEC title, they just tooled along and had a good season.
That should be our baseline- expect to host, even when we don't contend for the SEC.

15-15 in SEC and in position to host a Regional.

The floor for LSU baseball every season:
To host the regional - and win it.
To host the Super Regional
To host the regional - and win it.
To host the Super Regional

It’s tough because of rosters being so fluid. But I would expect post season regionals every year

My idea for major sports for a successful season.
Football: 10 wins
Basketball: make the tourney / win one game there.
Baseball: make a super regional
If you do that you’ll put yourself in a good place to win a championship once a decade.
