Context matters here about MSU, too.

They are not a good hitting team, and they have the worst slugging % in the SEC.

Holman had a bad start - he was not locating his pitches as well as normal. Most of the hits he gave up ahead in the count. Just hope he can improve next week.

I don’t think many are worried about Holman. I’m worried about our bats

They were both extra-base errors, not missed out errors

Those “errors” absolutely made him face more batters by no plays and Bingham shitty throw on that double play.

Our bats did not help the pitchers enough.

but the LH hitters did hit him hard.

Thought maybe he could have showed a 3rd pitch more
I feel like an idiot cause I can’t think off the top of my head, but we haven’t seen much of a changeup from him have we? I feel like that’s what he needs, especially against lefties

Kohler walks on 3 pitches

1) typo

3) what the hell did I miss?

ETA- missed the game. But this is a great breakdown. Thanks for deep diving. 10 hits seemed uncharacteristic. Heck, even what you characterize as bloops/dribblers brings it to 7 which is still fairly uncharacteristic for him, but it sounds much more like it just wasn’t his night than he got rocked out before 5IP.

Everyone on the board hates Lester, but this is a great take.

That summed up pretty much what I thought about yesterday. He definitely didn’t have his supreme control, but pitched way better than the results would indicate.

Part of it may be luck. Baseball also has some inherent paradoxes at times.
Many well-hit balls become outs, while many balls not hit as well find space for hits.
And generally, the more you miss when you're underneath on foul balls, the better (except for foul tip 3rd strikes of course). Miss by a lot, and it's out of play. Miss to where it's just out of fair territory, and it might be an out.
