2nd Inning

-Downs singles
-Kohler K's looking (1 out)
-Long swinging bunt (2 out; great play by Neal, btw)
-Cupp another swinging bunt, INF single to 3B White
-Larry RBI single bloop over SS 1 RUN scores
-Mershon K looking (3 out)

Thoughts: Holman gets 2 K's looking, and 3 batted balls with very weak contact. Two just ended up being hits; one extending inning, & 1 driving in run. This was a well pitched inning

3rd Inning

-Jordan is up vs shift. Chops a single into 4-hole where 2B should be. Cheap hit.
-Hines lines out to RF(1 out. Guy was locked in all night)
- Husak hits into FC( 2 out), adavanced to 2B on Braswell throwing error.
- Downs has a great AB and singles to RCF. Unearned run scores.
- Kohler walks on 3 pitches
- Long bounces to White to end inning (3 out)

Thoughts: you get a guy slugging .913 to hit a two hopper to 2nd, you have to feel pretty good about that. Holman works ahead of all hitters this inning, getting four of them into 1-2 / 0-2 counts. Run only scores due to hitter getting XTRA base on error.

4 Inning

3 up / 3 down on 7 pitches

5 Inning

- Gets Jordan to ground to 2B (1 out )
- Hines HR on prob the biggest mistake pitch of night.
-Husak hits INF single on fooled pitch
- Downs hits a dribbler to 3B, FC (2 out)
- Kohler lines single to LF, Bingham misplays ball, run scores.

-----Holman Exits-----

Thoughts: The LH's make very solid contact this inning. Down's FC is hit so softly, cannot turn 2. Extra bases galore lead to extra runs once he exits.

What I liked about the outing:

-Holman consistently worked ahead of hitters.

-Induced groundballs all night. Lot of soft contact, and other balls that would be double-plays most nights.

-Gave up 10H; 3 were INF singles. 3-4 solid contacts.

-Neutralized biggest threat in Jordan

- The FC's that could not be converted to DPs were killer, but thought Holman dealt with them well. Extra bases led to runs in other innings that Holman otherwise would have been unscathed.

What I didn't like

- Holman was not at fault for much, but the LH hitters did hit him hard. Hines hit two missles, & Kohler smoked a line drive single.

- Thought maybe he could have showed a 3rd pitch more, or thrown more breaking balls. Holman had seven instances he was in 0-2, 1-2, or 2-2 counts. More of these need to be K's.

I noticed most of this in game as well. Half the hits were weak contact or unlucky defensive positioning. He got tuned up mostly on fastballs, that pitch was not located very well. Both pitches to hines were pretty fat

I didn’t get to see the game, so thank you for this context.

He apparently inherited Hurds batted ball luck for last nights game. I hope that Hurd has a better run because of it.

It really was a bad luck outing. They happen in baseball, even happened to Skenes last year. I believe he'll shake back.

I agree their singles and hits were literal puss shots some where def hit hard later innings but their first couple runs where bullshite. Plus I think Yeskie don’t help Holman out at all on that first home run you could see he was squaring up his fastball and then next pitch he throws same fastball right over plate

This feels like it happens way more than it should. We shift out of the normal position and the ball gets through or we switch the SS/2B and they hit it to the lesser fielder.
I know they have analytics that show this and , I’m not completely anti shift but would also like to see the numbers that show a benefit in our case.

Great breakdown. It was a bad bounce night in general for the Tigers. That’s what makes baseball a different sport.

The exact same pitches and same location of pitches could be thrown on a different night and the outcome is different. A small bounce here or there, a fielder with a 1/2 step different move, so many small things. One game a season or series doesn’t make and I’m still extremely confident this team is in Omaha later in the year.

I get it; but to be fair, Jordan hit's a ball later in the game up the middle, where Milam is placed right behind 2B for an out.

Kinda evened out, at least last night.

This is all valid, but there will be people that agree with all of this but won’t analyze our offense in the same way. They’ll just say we had 10 hits and 8 runs so we must be good. I guess that comes with being a fan though.

Holman was 1 out away from a quality start (2 ER in 4.2 IP), dude pitched fine, not his best, but MSU got a ton of cheap hits that game and combined with our piss poor defense it really extended things for him.

Yep, we notice it more when it doesnt work.
Stands out.

Whereas milam’s play on jordan was good defensive positioning and shifting that worked. No one gives it a second thought

All that wall and no mention of the extra pitches because of errors and the fact he did that without the ability to locate his FB or change-up. Just a wall about soft liners and other bull shite

You need 6ip for a QS but I do think that is what he can offer you every outing, even against better teams.

He wasn't sharp. But, he didn't pitch poorly.

He didn’t throw extra pitches due to the errors. They were both extra-base errors, not missed out errors lol.

The frick is wrong with you? He broke down almost all of the things that happen, you are free to add your thoughts. No one is paying him to do this

17-13 is a good SEC prediction. I do think we are a top 8 seed, host a Super, and make it back to Omaha.
