Is there a coach who you’d immediately lose interest in the season if they hired?
I can’t say I’d lose interest because no matter how bad it has been at times in the past, I am still watching every weekend. Even immediately after I say “enough, I’m done”
That said, there are a couple names that would just make me accept that LSU football is back to level of Archer and Hallman.
Drink is one of them. Even though he’s had relative success at Missouri, there’s something about him that inspires no confidence.
Then a guy like Gruden. I doubt that’s even a real thought but his name is brought up here frequently. I’d honestly take Drink a thousand times over him.
I’d give the benefit of the doubt to G5 moving up to the big time, coordinators getting their first shot etc.

Some of you are so mentally weak.

I care more about LSU than I do the head coach. Coach’s come and go all the time but LSU will always be around and it’s our state school and will always support them.

I feel like you have to be pretty football illiterate to think BK was a splash hire.
This is a really bad take.
It didn’t work out and I’m glad he’s gone.
But hiring the winningest coach in the history of one of the most storied programs ever in CFB, a guy who’d been successful at every stop in his career is THE definition of splash hire.
Especially when it sort of came out of nowhere.

Is he? This he’ll be his sixth head coaching gig and he hasn’t won shite.

While I love LSU football my lack of excitement surrounding the entire landscape of college football has me just not caring that much.

My interest won’t be determined by who is hired.
I love LSU football….But, my interest in college football has dropped off significantly over the last handful of years, due to the state of the game, and everything around it. All the transfers, and NIL, etc. it’s all just detracted from the pageantry that is college football. It’s just becoming the pros with a college Logo on their helmet.

This is true..........but if they miss on Kiffen I would not be disappointed unless they get some uninspired current head coach. I'd love to see a young guy with fire run with it. I think this is a place that could take someone that runs and inspires a good lower tier program and make him a superstar.

I am first an LSU fan. I’m not a Lane Kiffin fan but if he ends up here, I’ll be excited and support the team. And I certainly don’t think he’s worth $98M. We’re still dealing with the last $100M contract.
Here’s my concern: our pursuit and offer to him is widely known. If (when) he turns us down, how does Verge go to Missouri and say “we really want you as our coach” then offer significantly less?
Hard to believe, 3 short months ago, I couldn’t wait for the season to start. Now, it can’t end fast enough.

won’t lie. If they miss on Kiffin, because of all the hype, it’d be really hard to be excited next season.
Dillingham or Sumrall would succeed here. They are both young and have that fire.

agree that if we miss on Kiffin nobody is going to be happy with the hire no matter who it is.
This isn’t true. There are quite a few Tiger fans that would prefer other options. If it is Kiffin, I won’t hate the hire because I will be excited by the potential but I would prefer Huepal or Dilly and know quite a few others on this board and in my personal circles that feel the same.

I lose interest when the product is not entertaining. I'll wait and see what they look like next year and go from there. Who the coach is doesn't matter. I never expected Orgeron or Kelly to put up crazy good offenses with Heisman QBs.

frick Kiffin, NIL, and TAF while I'm at it
they've all contributed to the death of college athletics, paricularly football, as we knew it

It's really not. We were in the doldrums when O got canned and Kelly (we thought) would bring stability to the program.
We weren't jumping off the walls because Brian Kelly was hired

I watch all the games either in person or on TV. From the 1960s-90s, radio was sometimes the only option, but I listened to every play. The only game I chose to miss since 1966 was the recent Kansas State bowl game. The program was so low at that point...no words. HOWEVER, I am losing interest. NIL, transfer portal, coaching carousel, the gameday stadium experience is just awful, 4-5 minute TV commercials between change of possession, terribly expensive tickets and concessions, millionaire college freshmen...it's a long list. Long story short, the coach doesn't matter. The culture of the game is pushing me away.

I’m on record as saying about the entire sport now “ it’s like watching a train going by. I don’t care where it’s been or where it’s going “ Strictly just a diversion and entertainment for me
Now.
Now.

Completely agree.
I’m not studied on all the available coaches, but I feel like an up and comer rather than Kiffin actually could be the way to go… but whatever….

My only expectation for Saturday football is cooking and having family over, preferably outside cooking and a fire in the outside fireplace. There are multiple reasons why my plans get derailed.
1. It's hot most Saturdays until it's later in the season. I work offshore so that opportunity is already cut in half. So no fire, and probably not nursing a gumbo on the outdoor stove.
2. Pat McAfee being on Gameday has completely ruined that show for me. The guy is terrible. He sucks up all the energy with his "look at me" bullshite and makes the show unwatchable.
3. And most importantly, I can't pin my family down to doing shite, and they won't just tell me they can't come.
As for the game, I just want it to be competitive. We all need to get past the previous reality that you had to be undefeated to get into the playoff. Every game can't be won now, the backups just don't exist with the transfer portal.
