My teenage daughter actually made a comment during the game about the hip drop tackles and questioned whether they were legal in college.

I played her the clip of Lane yesterday commenting about them in relation to Trey'Dez (she was pretty proud of herself for noticing them.)

Then showed her the clip of Chaz Ramsey trying to destroy Glen Dorsey's knee and gave her a history of dirty Auburn play over the years.

SEC hatred has to be nurtured and passed on to the young.

I've never coached my kids to land on and trap the legs but absolutely, get low, wrap up and swivel then drop to the side

Dropping to the side is natural because it’s the fastest way to get the ball carrier to the ground.

I laughed out loud when that auburn player wouldn’t get off of Dillon Jones’ ankle and Seaton flicked him off like a rag doll

Auburn has always been dirty.
They chop blocked Glenn Dorsey in 2007 injuring his knee.

Dorsey did finish the season wearing a brace.

99% of this board never even heard of “hip drop “ tackles before LK mentioned

Now everyone noticed it all game long
Even 9 yr old girls

Yeah, I mentioned this other day. It was horribly blatant on Green especially. I gasped for air on every tackle as he got violently tackled multiple times. Knowing Durkin as DC I'm 100% certain these were intended dirty tackles.

Yup. Pretty much summed it up. But these penalties were all implemented to protect players from concussion, snapped ankles, or blown out knees - multiple games missed for these types of injuries.

There's already enough injuries. I dislike seeing a kid carted off much more than the extra flags. These penalties are good for the game. A hip-drop tackle can literally snap ankles, break legs, or tear knee ligaments.

It seems pretty clear for defenders - don't leave your feet. Don't launch up off your feet into a player, don't lead with your head using your helmet as a weapon, or drop down off your feet to tackle an opponent.

Other than spearing tackles that lead with the helmet, Hip Drop tackles are tied with Horse Collar tackles as the most dangerous tackles in the game.

The NFL banned hip drop tackles in 2024 after charting the injuries over 20,000 tackles and determined that hip drop tackles cause serious time missing injuries 20-25x more often than regular tackles. That is statistically identical to the injury rate of horse collar tackles.

Hip drop tackles end careers, and need to be banned.

Disagree. There’s already too much legislation on how defenders can play defense.

Then horse collars tackles I guess should be legal also. Pulling a player down backward by the collar or by the hip has exactly the same danger. You are bending the guy towards you for NO REASON at all. The obvious way to tackle is to shove the guy down to the turf, NOT play a dangerous game of Twister with the body. Too bad you wouldn't be out there because I would want YOU to be horse collared or hip tackled one time and see if that would change your mind. It is a dirty way to tackle and isn't even natural to do. You are literally pulling the player back towards your own body. STUPID and both should be ILLEGAL...one is...the other isn't as of yet.
