Otherwise, if he plays vs SLU, we'll know it was a BS excuse from BK (at least as to the severity of the injury) thrown out after he was called out for his team's poor offensive performance to date.

Your first sentence was good; this one, not so much.
I expect Nuss to play based on what Kelly said. He said that Nuss’ injury was not affecting what they could do, but it HAD AFFECTED their ability to practice certain throws. In other words, his injury is about healed - “He’s on the back end of it”. He’s almost 100% but probably won’t totally get there until the bye week.

Anyone who saw Nuss underthrow that first possession bomb to Barion could see that something was wrong. But he’s young and healing fast.

Nuss is going to play through the injury until the bye week. That's the plan.

the reason why this makes no sense is if he only needs 1 week to heal why not sit him for SLU, a team we don't need him to win, and then he would be 100% for Ole Miss? Even if he isn't it makes more sense to sit him this week and play him next week and then he would get another week off to rest....if he plays he only gets one weekend to heal. I think the torso injury is an excuse and its more likely an arm issue bc he was on a "pitch" count in fall.

Now that Kiffin knows Nuss has a torso injury, you better believe he will have a backup scrub taking a cheap shot at Nuss in the torso.

He’s missed hundreds of reps in practice because of this injury, is not “game limited” and he and his WR, OL, and RB’s need reps.

It’s well worth the risk; a no brainer for a coach in this scenario.

The way most coaches handle these things these days, it is likely he will start.

Hopefully, the team can grab a large enough lead pretty soon, so Nuss can sit the entire second half.

No amount of reps is going to fix his lack of throwing strength that he's shown the past couple of weeks. As they pointed out, with an oblique injury, he's not generating enough torque throwing across his body.

if nuss sits, are we opening up the playbook or we gonna stay conservative cause we don't want the backup to look better?

Backup would certainly rack up some stats. Nuss would lose the opportunity to pad some stats. No one would care if the backup looked better.

Nuss needs the reps. If he’s on the back end of the injury then work through it and get the reps in. Have him play the first half, jump into a big lead then have MVB play. This is the best strategy

He's a 5th year senior in the same offense as last season and would be going up against a defense with lesser players than he would see practicing against LSU's 2nd team. He doesn't "need the reps". If he's hurt to the point where it is significantly hurting his and the offense's performance, he needed to be resting all week and missing the game to get well for the meat of the schedule coming up. That's FAR more important than 40 "reps" against SLU.

The fact that he is practicing and playing tells you BK was overstating whatever injury he has and its impact to make an excuse for the poor performance.

Have you seen how arse the offense has been? Idc if he’s a 25th year senior, nothing beats in game reps. Y’all are so wrapped up in this idea that BK is lying that yall take basic logic out of the equation.
To improve the offense give him in game reps. Period. I’m not saying play him the full game but seriously let him just work through some things.

My hope would be that we run the frick out of the ball and Nuss gets around 250 yards and we don't do too much. Let the OL "practice" running the ball. Let the RBs see the holes. Run well enough where you don't have to throw deep balls then for Ole Miss, throw the mf deep ball to back that secondary up and try to open up the run.

I know people say the run opens up the pass, but I believe the deep pass game can open up your running lanes.

Put Jackson in. I know people want harlem in, but KJ is going to be needed this year. He is the closest thing we have to a bruiser and you have to hit the 2nd and 3rd level guys in the mouth sometimes to make them hesitate on tackles. He needs reps.

Ideally, you play Nuss for a scripted number of plays. Get him to make certain throws like it is a practice session. Once that script is up, put in the backup. If the offense sputters and the margin is not yet as wide as you want, you still can rely on the defense to shut things down.

No, I think some people are actually using logic rather than just swallowing anything the coach says as truth.

Kelly said:

“He’s been slowed a little bit with a torso injury,” Kelly said at his weekly news conference. “He’s fighting through it, and he’s getting better.

“He’s not going to be able to really shut it down until the bye week (Oct. 4).

In that statement he is implying (if not outright stating) (a) the injury has had an effect on the struggles of the offense and (b) that he needs additional rest to further heal the injury that is cause (a).

So logically, if the injury is slowing him and he needs rest to prevent the injury from slowing him, then why not get him that rest now ahead of the meat of the schedule? Why wait until AFTER the Ole Miss game?

"But he needs the reps"!

He's a 5th year senior. He's played over 1,000 snaps in his LSU career. He's attempted 850 passes. Given that, I think logic would dictate the benefit of healing whatever injury he has would FAR outweigh any benefit he might received from 40 more snaps against an FCS opponent. If' Nuss's injury is a big factor in the struggles of your offense then the priority should be to get him as healthy as can be as soon as you can.

If he is 'injured' in the slightest, he needs to sit.
If Nuss were to injure again whatever ails him against SE, just to build up stats, BK would and should come under serious fire.
It makes complete sense for our backup to get TS experience to win a game, even against SE. With Nuss' injury situation, we have no idea what might happen against another sec opponent on our schedule, and LSU would need as much experience as possible to take over. I think it is coaching malfeasance for Nuss to play at all if he has any injury at all. Be smart LSU !

If the injury is severe enough to (allegedly) totally impair the approach and function of the offense, and the only way to heal it is with rest, then he needs to sit this weekend in order to maximize his (and by extension, the offense's) effectiveness vs. Ole Miss. Otherwise, if he plays vs SLU, we'll know it was a BS excuse from BK (at least as to the severity of the injury) thrown out after he was called out for his team's poor offensive performance to date.

The injury occurred fall camp. I don't know why so many are thinking this is an injury that Nuss sustained since the start of the season. It's why he got days of rest, was put on a pitch count & wasn't allowed to throw in front of the media towards the very end of camp especially the scrimmages.

Yeah. People keep acting like it's a new injury. BK even said that he is on the back end of this and is finally feeling better. He even said that he is now able to do some things at practice that he wasn't able to do in the weeks before.

Starting Van Buren also has the added effect of making Ole Miss waste practice time next week preparing for the possibility of a mobile QB.

Maybe, but his highlight tape showed some very solid runs last year.
