This is a good idea. You get a few extra guys for the scout team and boost the overall gpa of the program.

no it doesn't, the scholarship players(historically,) treat the walk ons like shite and constantly rub it in their faces, there's definitely a class system in play

LSU, like most schools, has a history of treating walk ons like shite. Back in the 80's and 90's and probably before, the team would dress out in Tiger Stadium and would bus to the "Ponderosa". Walk ons would have to jog or walk from TS to the Ponderosa and back every day.

Depends on the position and the player. Some walk-ons are very tight with the scholarship guys, especially the ones that stick around more than 1 season.

Also depends on what season, all of those 2019 walk ons got the same 3 championship rings Burrow got.

Like so many of you Ranters, I finally weigh enough to play on the LINE. I would have to go to grad school maybe get my Masters in WOKEness.

I had a friend that walked on the spring of our sophomore year. Les was the coach. He played football at catholic schools from 5th grade all the way through high school, and he wrestled in multiple weight classes, so he was in decent football shape.

He said walking on was the dumbest decision he had ever made because of the intensity.

This is how you get practice dummies

To be honest with you, I have a ton of respect for those guys. They have to essentially go through everything the scholarship players go through. Yet, they get no recognition. No playing time. And, often, don't get to dress out for all games. It is ALL the work with no real tangible reward other than simply being a part of the team.

I lived with a walk-on (fullback) in college. He went through all of the same work the other players did. Got the hell beat out of him in practice. Only got to dress out for a few home games a year. And maybe played twice a season, on kickoffs in blowouts. The guy wasn't on scholarship and didn't come from a family with means. So, after the season he worked construction to make ends meet, including tuition. Sometimes he did small construction jobs after practice during the season...just so he could stay in school and continue to be a part of a team that no one outside of his friends and family really knew he was a part of.

I was a walk on at LSU for a while, it didn't take me long to realize that I was out there to be something the scholarship guys could beat on to save wear and tear on other scholarship guys and have enough bodies out there to run things, scholarship guys treated walk ons like shite, constantly reminding you of what they had provided for them and what you didn't, a few of the coaches were that way too, I know there are Cinderella stories out there but for the most part its a pretty miserable setup

Yes, but...like everything else in life, respect is earned, not given. Buddy of mine was walk-on 4 years (earned scholarship senior year). Lived with scholarship guys in ECA after freshman year.

I wonder if the walkons get the benefit of academic tutors and other help that the scholarship players get? All that practice time has got to take a toll on your gpa for your classes.
