Rondell was a way better back than Ford, IMO.

He was, that is why I put all 3 of the back ups from last year over Mealey. The combination of the 3 >>> Mealey

I can't agree with that at all. I saw Marcus and JJ both play in the Cotton Bowl. Both of which had championship talent around them and JJ was the clearly the better QB and athlete.

awesome comparison my man. one game eight years apart vs. a different opponent. that texas team would have kicked the shite out of A&M in 2010. they were loaded. Randall was an average QB-JJ is not average.

I'd take JJ based on that performance; and the reports of his improvment; and his potential to have a great senior year over Marcus.

JJ plays great when he has a month to prepare

at least Randall was somewhat consistent week to week.

Interesting: I can't make a comparison from a game played years ago...

...but apparently you can.

True that. You'll get no argument from me.

If JJ would just find a consistent level of play throughout the year, the offense would improve. I just happen to feel it will happen.

Yea neither Marcus nor JJ is who you would want running the LSU offense but given the choice of one or the other I think Marcus would be the best of two evils due to his leadership and presence.

Again, that is a really tough one. JJ has shown flashes of being a competent QB, but has been really really really bad at times. I don't think Randle has ever played as bad as JJ has at times, but he never played as well as JJ has at times either.

If pressed for a decision... Damn!... I guess I'd have to go with... JJ. Just for the potential that he would maybe possibly at some point have a decent game.

while Herb was one of LSU's all time better QB's, I would have to go with JJ. Better passer, more athletic, can slip out the pocket and take off with the ball better. I would give the edge in leadership to Herb so far, but all reports are that JJ is turning it around in that department as well. I loved Herb Tyler as a QB at LSU in his day, but I got to go with JJ overall.

Yup. Herb was a leader that inspired confidence running the team. I hold my breath practically everytime JJ takes a snap and steps back to pass.

Uh against Texas Randle ran for over 100 yards in the first half and threw for over a hundred as well. He pulled a hammy or a groin on a 76 yard run at end of first half and played the 2nd half on one leg. Led the LSU offense to 441 total yards against a very talented Texas defense.

Not to mention leading LSU from a 14-0 deficit to a 24-21 victory over Florida in the Swamp in 2004.

Again the thread was Herb Tyler vs JJ which is a slam dunk for Herb but a more apt comparison for JJ is Randle even there he falls short. As for the reports of his improvement I think they may be similiar to the reports of all these fans wanting Sparacino over Tyler in 1996, not much substance to them.

Herb was a better leader as a freshman than JJ in his 3rd year on the field.

JJ does not have less to work with. LSU has never recruited better talent than the last decade. JJ brings talent around him down to his level.

Herb Tyler at QB would have had LSU playing for the national championship the last 2 years. You are comparing apples to carrots or something.

Still his career efficiency rating is higher than Jefferson's. Wouldnt be surprised if it is still higher after this year.

I'm not sure how people can say Jefferson is more athletic. He is bigger and stronger and may even have better straight line speed, but is isn't like Tyler was some stiff back there. Can anyone honestly see Jefferson making a run reminiscent of Tyler's run against Florida in 97? Jefferson is like a cow on ice when he has to start making cuts.
