With over 1,600 softball players entering the portal and only about 58% landing somewhere new, there’s a growing middle class of athletes discovering that the market isn’t always as life-changing as social media makes it seem. Some players cash in with NIL opportunities and bigger programs, but many others end up without a roster spot at all.

At the same time, coaches are treating roster management more like professional front offices with evaluating, filling needs, and rebuilding an entire team from year to year. Here today, gone tomorrow.

NIL has changed the landscape of softball, not all for the better.

Scott Woodward decisions are long gone. New sheriff in town. It’s the revenue sharing that many speak about and LSU will apply that elsewhere. I have no idea about NIL for softball. I want LSU to win in everything but it doesn’t mean I will follow all sports.

I'm sure most of those players want to see their NIL value and aren't specifically unhappy at LSU. Unfortunately softball doesn't have much earning potential after college except for the true elite players. Just look at Texas Tech bringing in all americans off of really good teams because they paid them more NIL money.
With questionable future earning potential, you can hardly blame the players for chasing the bag. With footbal and basketball, I feel many players are hurting their long term earning for a short term payoff which, while being a good chunk of money, is a drop in the bucket to a pro contract for a good player.

No problem with players leaving but some make excuses and take no accountability..they will be failures in life

It's always a sad time of year to see what players leave or stay. If that number of players (9) leaving is accurate, that's a little disturbing. Some of you say that better players are coming in. I certainly hope that is so.

6-7 is my personal favorite.

357 mentioned a long time ago some donors who gave a lot to softball over the years were over the Beth era so I would imagine our NIL is weak.

NIL isn’t the reason for the departures (at least this group).

LSU has recruited “top” classes on paper each year she has been here. Talent evaluation and development individually is the issue holding the program from going where they want to go

No she isnt.

Berzon left last year and the program survived. Same is true here.

meh

The fanbase and its destructive negativity is a much bigger weight on the program. The fans pretty much guarantee the "mediocrity" that they complain about. Torina has to overcome LSUs own fans.

The program was positioned to be better next year. We will see if the portal losses vs. gains ends up changing that.

Not sure who the bad portal losses will be, a portal pitcher will be better than Heavener and assuming Tori Edwards leaves like poster said it’s not hard to replace her last yrs numbers

I kinda agree. It gets suffocating to see it here and on comments on the team Facebook page constantly.

It reminds me of when Tennessee fired Fulmer because they were tired of winning 9 games a year in football. They got their wish...and spent the next decade winning 6 games instead.

This year's incoming freshman class is the best she has had on paper and Bryce had a lot to do with it. If he can develop them, we will be fine. Same with Beth and the stud freshmen pitchers coming in.

If in 2 years it doesn't result in something considerable, then maybe a change is in order.

She went through and deleted all of them

Maybe not all are leaving, but as of now she was officially correct about McKee, Phillips, and Heavener.
