That's a lot of beer. However, $58 is high for 60 coors lights. That's a dollar a piece!

It's not bad when you consider those prices are Canadian dollars (which also explains the french on the carton). Again, this is not a real story.

Doing the conversion, it's still $46 US, which is high. Hell, we can get a case of that stuff for about $13.

The allure of New Glarus distributing its beer in-state only makes Spotted Cow beer a popular get, but I've always found it to be a tad overrated.

Perhaps...I had a coworker (actually a consultant working with me) that lives in WI and brought down a 12 pack or so of strictly WI beer. I'm not going to lie, all of it was good, but the spotted cow stood out to me. I didn't believe her when she said it was strictly sold in WI the next day, but alas, she was right.

Wisconsin has the beer game on lock, no doubt about that. I don't doubt that you find New Glarus overrated for that reason; you have likely gotten to sample more.

There are many things about that collegespun article and the images used that prove it's fake.

And while I do love my craft beer, I admit that during a hot late summer tailgate, domestic lights do have their place. And that is beer pong, flip cup, bongs, boat races, etc.

I didn't even look at the link, most sites are blocked at my office.

I'm by no means a beer snob, I like light beer too, just can't stand Coors Light and Miller Light. I love Coors original though. Currently I have some Mikkeller beers in my fridge right next to a six pack of Coors original tallboys lol.

There is a huge difference between south and north Louisiana when it comes to consumption. Just sayin.

I mentioned it in another place, but a couple Sconnie breweries/beers to look for when you get up here, assuming of course you can't get the stuff down there...

Central Waters
Tyranena
New Glarus
Hinterland
Jacob Leinenkugel (but only the Big Eddy stuff)
Titletown

Not complete list of breweries in Wisco

Central Waters, in my opinion, does the best stuff, with Tyranena second. Anything barrel-aged by CW is worth a try. If you like fruit beers, definitely find some stuff from New Glarus.

Are you a Leines fan? Personally hate it, but to each his own.

Other breweries to look out for, outside of the few you listed:

- Karben4 (Madison) - get a Fantasy Factory
- Ale Asylum (Madison) - you want a Bedlam
- Lakefront (Milwaukee) - Riverwest is a good Amber
- One Barrel (Madison)

A couple Brewpubs in Madison:
- Great Dane
- Vintage

Additionally, there are some very good regional craft-breweries that distribute throughout Wisconsin.

- Toppling Goliath is one of the top-rated breweries in the country and only a few hours to the west in Decorah, Iowa. Coincidentally, I was there this past weekend. Anyway, you can find quite a few bottles/taps scattered around Madison and Milwaukee. There are also some up in Appleton and Green Bay, but you can't get TG outside of Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

- Surly Brewing Company is excellent. They have one of the best taprooms I've been to in Minneapolis, but distribute their beers plenty across Wisconsin. I've only seen Furious and Overrated in Chicago, but I would give a lot to have an Axe Man in proximity.

Someone needs to photoshop JJ Watt in the middle with Fournette and Beckwith on the outside.

Not a Leinie's fan, which is why I specifically called out the Big Eddy line.

They've got some really highly rated stuff, including the the Cherry Doppelschwarz (rated a 94), their Russian Imperial Stout (rated an 89 for a russian, which is impressive), imperial IPA (rated an 82) and a good wee heavy scotch ale (a 92).

Avoid Neenah. Then again, I was born and raised there, so maybe it's one of those things. They do have an excellent bourbon bar just east of downtown though. That said, Appleton has plenty of places with good bourbon or whatever else you're in search of.

I've lived in Appleton for 15 years and live four blocks west of downtown, so I'll give you my suggestions.

As far as sports bars, the only one downtown that I care for is The Bar. On the east side of town there's a place called Game Day that's pretty decent.

Downtown:

Fox River House - My favorite bar. Good selection of beer, especially bottled. Skee Ball. Very nice patio.

The Ambassador - If you want top-shelf drinks, this is the place to go. I've gotten the best Old Fashioned and gin and tonic I've ever had there. They make their own bitters, have a great selection of beer (again, mostly bottled), and a great selection of liquor.

Olde Town Tavern - Has the odd combination of crappy beer (buckets for $7) and high-end liquor (bourbons and tequilas especially).

Bazils - Next to OTT and has the same kitchen/menu. They have at least 100 bottled beers and another 20 or so taps. They have a solid liquor selection too.

If you're a beer guy, definitely check out Stone Cellar, which is in the flats (walking distance just south of downtown). They are by far the best brewery in the city. Their food is also fantastic.

If you just want a huge selection, there is a World of Beer by the mall (west side of town (Grand Chute)). Fox River Brewing Company in the mall is a pretty good brewery and has decent food as well.

That should be enough to keep you busy/full/drunk.

On Wisconsin! Cannot wait for the tailgating and game.

Sleepyhed97!

Thanks for the Appleton tips! I'm sure I'll be drinking my way through that town Thursday night/Friday afternoon (or late morning...). Then it's on to Green Bay!

Anyone can drink light beer, but when it comes to liquor consumption. Louisiana residents stand alone at the top.

60 beers in a week is a ton. The average beer drinker drinks that much in Wisconsin?

He actually said "little more than a week", so let's assume he meant 8 days. That's 7.5 beers per day. I know people who drink at least that many on a normal day and probably average more than that with occasional heavier drinking days.

Most of the stats I've found don't support that.

Now, that's not to say that LSU fans can't get after it, I have no doubt they're second to none.

What an objective observation!

Seriously, who the hell cares... Both fan bases are well-known for throwing a great party.
