"Positive Coaching" doesn't mean the Coach can't breath fire when appropriate. I swear, it seems like most of the Ranters have never played sports before except maybe T-Ball or soccer when they were 5.

So far no real thoughts just insults. Is that what LSU is teaching these days? If you don't like it or too lazy to debate it just name call! Right out of the liberal playbook!

First, Kelly has been a head coach (at different schools) for over 30 years. He's had great success in his career. Thus, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt in believing that he knows what he's doing.

Second, his general statement was that the staff is going to be "demanding, but never demeaning". That is a trait of a lot of great leaders. People don't tend to want to follow, play, work, etc, for people who constantly demean them. They'll leave to work/play for someone else who treats them with respect. NOTHING in Kelly's 30+ year career suggests he is a coach who will fail to hold players accountable. So to somehow glean from a lighthearted speech to the rotary club that Kelly is going to be "soft" on players is ridiculous.

Finally, his statement that he wants he and the team to have "fun" on Saturday (while, again, completely lighthearted) underlies the fact that football is SUPPOSED to be fun. It's a game. It's why we all played it. What he is saying there is the old adage that the preparation during the week should be tough so that the actual game is easy. Countless great players, throughout decades, throughout different sports, have echoed that sentiment. When you have great preparation the game is easy and is the "fun" part.

So now Brian Kelly is too soft? I remember when people said he was too mean to a QB because he yelled at him and his face went purple after he threw an interception.

Can we let the man coach a game before we say his style is not going to work? This rambling isn’t much better than the people saying he wouldn’t work at LSU because he isn’t a “culture” fit.

Finally a reasonable response? No, I didn't know about his anger with a QB. I wasn't comparing him to his past just what he said in his speech. If a head coach talks of graduating athletes and positive coaching its tells me he isn't as focus as he needs to be a month before his season starts. The long season thing bothers me as well. As for lets wait till he has a chance to have a game statement you made. Well, I must say it's fun looking for signs before the actual facts come out. Besides it's just in fun, I am hoping the best from the guy. And if by chance he loses really bad we'll know why and not need our media to tell us!

Kelly said "demanding, but not demeaning".

You clearly define expectations, hold your staff and players to those standards and you provide a consistent and supportive style of leadership that gives subordinates the ability to elevate their status.

It's probably the most universally accepted leadership model.

Is there anything more lame than an idiot trying to sound intelligent? The stupidity of Louisiana is unfathomable. We finally shake off the "talk like us" mentality and hire a coach with proven track record that can speak English, and half the fan base wants him to fail because they know he's more intelligent than they are.

So it's about how stupid people are in Louisiana and how more intelligent he is above them? I obviously dont agree with you. I am comparing his speech to other championship head coaches. Not just winning season HC's.

Keep in mind, he is now in the hardest division in all of college football. I hope he does well but wonder when I hear what I spoke of.

You wanted Leach or Kiffin or Fleck as HC...you are obviously experiencing a break in reality and should go see the nearest mental health professional...or maybe go hang out with Gaggle in the OT.

Oh yeah I would have preferred them, mind you, at the time I didn't know Kelly was in the running. (Mainly because I never thought I would see the day Notra Dame would be a farm league to any one) Now that we have Kelly I am rooting for him just questioning his speech!
BTW did you research my LSU National Champion prediction too?

So this board can't make an argument for or against this topic? Guys we are talking highschool English! Is the dumbing down of our education worst than we orginally thought?

You need to re read and rewrite your rambling post of non sense before you get mad at us for not understanding what the hell you are trying to say.

I think I might get the jest of it. Are you saying Kelly (extremely clever you spelled it Kellie, lol) is going to be to soft a coach because he is talking about building character of players in July press conferences?

Have you ever seen Kelly coach a game? The man turns purple from being on his players asses. One of the major opinions of Kelly has been he is an a-hole until his recent interviews have softned him some. But, you will still be getting a hard arse football coach out of Kelly. Have his Notre Dame teams ever been soft? Quite the opposite, they have overacheived mainly on there discipline and toughness.

As far as building character, yes it absolutely is the coaches responsibility to build character and discipline into players. Many players come from less then idea circumstances and character development has been lacking. For them to achieve the best they can be they need to build the character so they can do the small everyday things needed to be a champion. Everyone in the SEC is a talented player and the difference between being a champion is razor thin. Things like character, selfless Ness, team first attitude make the difference, especially in the NIL era where most things are pulling players towards being more selfish.

I believe you have listened to Kelly's summer interviews and have determined him soft while ignoring his history as a coach. We just had a tough coach that would beat anyone's arse including threatening fans of his coaches call in show. (We gotta a fishing hole for people like you) How did that work out?

Kelly seems to realize that top athletes have to have the best character and discipline possible to reach their peak performance and I agree.

How is this a bad thing? If Kelly is on their arse about school, then between going to class, studying and football there is no time for players to get in trouble.

In my opinion this talk from Kelly is exactly what I want to hear from the head coach. A disciplined LSU football team is a dangerous football team.

There is nothing to debate. It is so poorly written and thought out that to have any cogent response would take a monstrous amount of imagination.
