There is no reason Rettig isn’t starting over Jennings or Harris. He’s a pocket passer but he isn’t as bad as that statue Mettenberger, and he has more chest than that punk Gunner Kiel. Hell if Cam Cameron had any balls he would tell Les Miles to stay the hell out of his offense. He sure as hell is better than JJ and JL ever where! If Saban was still running things he would be starting! Alleva should have stepped in years ago and replaced Miles hell and while he was at it he should have fired Javi! I mean yeah Perrilloux screwed the program for years, but you can’t blame the BBQ and chief Studrawa on him. That mess was all Miles fault! At least if Retting was starting it might justify the ridiculous ticket prices! Hell with how much we pay for tickets and TAF I don’t know why they have to ruin the scoreboards by pimping Coke! Hell if we could keep decent QB’s maybe the stupid admins would stop banning the band from playing shite like neck! And maybe we could keep the sorry assed fans in their seats the whole game! Of course the shite parking, lousy traffic, and overpriced crap they serve in the concession stands don’t help either! Oh but we are going to add more seats for corporate interests! Hell it’s not like that crap is going to be ready in time anyway! I mean we managed to keep and start bums Jamie Howard and always crippled Harvard washouts like Andrew Hatch. Why can’t this program give a future star like Rettig a fair shot at starting! It’s because he’s white…and everybody knows Miles is racist and only plays black QB’s!

I never got back to this. Congratulations on taking the challenge and achieving ranter perfection.

Anybody who thinks a QB who has 100+ carries in a single year, isn't a dual threat, has no idea what a dual threat is. I should call you a moron, but I won't.
Everybody, as to whether or not our QB this year is technically a "dual-threat", consider this: On 3rd and medium, Harris or Jennings will make the LBs and other defenders respect the the QB taking off thus giving receivers more room in the 10-15 yd. zone. Didn't have to with Mett. Just about any defender could cover twice as much ground as Mett tring to get to the first down marker. To me, that's what real "dual threat" is.

Rettig will be a good QB.

Nope! I saw him in the All Star game. He was awful. I was so happy to hear that AJ beat him out by a mile from the first week of practice. That meant we at least might have one decent QB. I doubt Rettig will ever start for a decent college team. I doubt he would start at Tulane. And I'll be shocked if he's ever drafted. He is NOT a good QB. On the other hand, he might be a great human being, and he might become a great success in life, maybe as a salesman or businessman.

That's "klan" not "clan".

From the little I have seen of Rettig on film, he has a great arm, nice pocket presence, but of course this was against High school competition.

...and it wasn't film; it was highlights.

I agree with this, However, do you really consider Drew Brees a dual threat? I guess there are varying degrees of threat, that is my point.

I have seen dual threat QB's who were much better runners than passers, and still were not great runners.

Runner - Miller, Marshall, Reynolds, Johnson

Dual - Hundley, Mariota, Manziel, Bortles, Wallace, Hill, Kelly, Mauk, Shaw, Boyd, Smith, Denker, Lynch etc

Mobile - Winston, Petty, Murray, Wenning, Bridgewater, Carden, Scheelhasse, Gilbert, Cato (could be considered dual also), etc

Pure - Mett, Halliday, Mannion, Goff, etc

Of course some of these guys could easily fall in the area exactly above or below where I have them, but you get it.

You can be a dual threat without actually being good at one facet. Hell, JJ was bad at both.
This is the greatest thing ever.

I do know that Mauck was known for running, and was a threat for sure, just not very threatening in his final season, according to his stats

I can't remember well enough before this, so please jump in and correct me or add to this list.

LSU used three quarterbacks in:
2001 (Rohan, Mauck, Randall)
2002 (Mauck, Randall, frick you Clausen)
2004 (Randall, Jamarcus, Flynn)
2006 (Jamarcus, Flynn, Perrilloux)
2008 (Hatch, Lee, JJ, Shepard)
2013 (Mett, Rivers, Jennings)

I realize a lot of these years we were building depth during garbage time.

If I may:

1) all other things being equal, I'd rather a dual QB than a single one

2) all things being equal, I'd rather the BETTER QB, regardless of skillet

3) and so would Miles

4) and so would Cam

5) I don't like this for our depth. Harris is dynamic because he can pull it down and run which opens him up to get hit. Jennings has a lot of moxie--too much, actually--and stays in the pocket too long and opens himself up to get hit. It wouldn't take 2 very freak plays for us to be FUBAR

6) Wish we could have convinced Rivers to stick around, though I understand why he and Rettig would leave

7) take 1 QB in every class

8)

I'm not going through the entire thread but, does this change play calling? Limit the option runs due to fear of losing one of only two scholarship QBs?

I doubt it it, JJ. You call the plays to win the game. Worry about injuries if they come. But if they do, holy shite. I hope Bolden is taking snaps as we speak. (Honestly, I'd have rather had him than Rettig anyway. This year. If shite hit the fan)
