Should be conference champions. All of the D-1 conference champions in a playoff. End of story. Make it work with the bowls. Makes conference championships mean something. Best way to handle it IMO

They need to get the bias out of the system, or as much as possible ... the way it is now is if a team passes the "eye" test then they can get in over a conference champion whether they've earned it or not. Just because a team has better players doesn't mean they play better as a team (Boise St Vs Oklahoma 2007). No way should you have "wild cards" with only 4 teams getting in.

To quote a great American, we were undefeated in regulation.
You know, he had a point...
I remember staying up listening to Pitt beat WVU. What a great game. People complained that was some kind of weakness with the BCS, but I saw it as a strength. It made all kinds of games relevant that might not be otherwise.

Mrs. Midnight and I watched most of the second half of that game, standing up, almost in silence.
I had already laid out the scenarios - Oklahoma had to win (which I said, that will probably happen), etc., but dismissed everything when I said, "But Pitt just isn't going to beat WVU." So, I was on my way to the shower and checked the scores - unbelievable.
Remember this?

I’ll never forget rooting for Boise State to beat Hawaii in 2003 to knock down USC SOS a notch to propel us to #2

thinking this new playoff system would cut out the bullshite that ended the 2011 season but what it’s done is actually open more of the possibility for that to happen.
You are not very bright if you’re just realizing that a four team playoff is more likely than a two team playoff to include a team that didn’t win its conference.

There’s a great reason. It’s stupid as shite. Every rule like that is stupid. It’s so easy to devise a case in which it fails. How about this.
In a given year the SEC is especially dominant, winning almost all non-conference games. Except for Vandy. They lose three non-conference games to Army, Bowling Green and College of Charleston. However, Vandy goes on to win a weak SEC East. Ole Miss wins the SEC West on a tie breaker, but they have two losses, one out of conference. LSU is 11-1, but lost to Ole Miss.
Do you think the Vandy - Ole Miss winner should go, or LSU?

"Eye test" needs to be called exactly what it is: totally subjective bias.
Posted on 11/14/19 at 7:13 pm to Honkus
If a move to eight may be 3-4 SEC teams. That'd gripe their hineys - send them over the edge.

The way it should be is if your team is undefeated and an automatic seed in the college football playoffs, then all teams your team has already previously beaten in the regular season should automatically be disqualified from being able to get into the college football playoffs. As no college football playoff seeds should be forced to beat the same team a second time to win a college football playoffs. That spot should be given to the next best team in the country. As no teams should be given two shots to win a national title cause it simply is not fair to the rest of the field.

Some of y’all need to grow a pair and stop fearing Bama in a potential rematch. We’d just whip their arse again if it happens
After they have a bye and we have a conference championship? We may win, but that's simply not fair.

quote:Well, I can give you a 'half of a reason', we have a good example this year. It's possible that Clemson will play a 3 loss Coastal team. If they slip up, you have an unranked 3 loss team sitting on top of the ACC.
A few guidelines need to be put into place.
One of them? If you don’t participate in a conference championship, no opportunity for a playoff spot.
If there’s a good reason why this shouldn’t work I’d be curious to hear.
Like I said... 1/2 of a reason. Conf champ shouldn't be a QUALIFIER.
Should it be a dis-qualifier? I think not. What if we're in the SECCG without Burrow for a nagging injury that just needs some rest. That one game, one injury should prevent us from getting a slot? No, of course not.
I think your qualifier should change... change it from conference to division. If a conference with no divisions, you have to be in a tie-breaker or top-2 in conference.
Division = regular season resume (in conference)
Conf Champs = post season
I see it this way, a conf champ game should be like a double elimination game in the CWS. It shouldn't knock you out, maybe just knock you down in rankings.
For that to be installed probably need to expand playoffs to 6 teams with 1 & 2 getting a bye. So, as it looks like for us right now, if we were to beat the E champ in SECCG we stay at 1, get bye. If we were to lose it, we get dropped to 3-6 and have to play with less rest. That way there's some penalty for losing champ game, but not the end of your season.

quote:....see, this is why they had LSU jump The Ohio St in the polls... Bama lost to the #2 team at the time the game was played but the media is now saying Bama lost to now #1 team LSU by a mere 5 points... so the media is pushing Bama‘s narrative they are deserving to be included becuz of ONLY losing by 5 points to a #1 LSU .. they are looking at all other teams SOS but only Bama’s “win” in a loss to LSU...such BS....
bamas one loss would be against the #1

Oregon or Utah would have 1 additional win, which would skyrocket their SOS compared to bama
People are missing this. That extra game, over a quality opponent is something Bama can't match.
The CFP even said, if comparing a conf champ to a non conf champ, the non conf champ would have to be unequivocally better
Plus, the just told you via UGA @ 4 that... Good wins + bad loss > no good wins + good loss.
Oregon or Utah will meet that criteria

Nah. Too many average teams pull upsets in conf championship games. I don't care anything about allowing a 8-4 team in the playoff to get drilled by 12-0 teams.
If you want to say conf champs + must be ranked top 12, I'll roll with something like that. That would usually limit it to really good teams at least

In 2017 and 2011 bama got in with a loss and no conf title.
They won the fricking national championship.
This completely vindicates both the BCS and the CFP committee in their decisions.
It's not their fault you're a pussy.
If we lost to bama last weekend the exact same posters would be saying we should get in at 4.

They did away with algorithms, computers and the polls because it’s way easier to control a panel of bought and paid for committee members than it is to control hundreds of writers, coaches and computer programmers. Those committee members are put in place with the understanding that they will do the bidding that is expected of them when the time comes at the end of the season.
The same people who have always profited off the bowl system are the same ones pulling the strings on this “committee”. It’s all about ratings ratings ratings. It always has been and if they can get their way, it always will be.
It’s the sole reason that this BS system for the “NCAA” FBS is still in place. It’s the only sport that outsources its “championship”. The winner does not get the official brown NCAA trophy that every other sport gets. All other divisions have a legit playoff system to determine the overall champion. These clowns don’t want to give up their cush money grab. Just face the fact that they control who goes in and how much money they can plan to make off of it.
