re: Hate McMahon all you want…if you can’t see the improvement you’re blind

Yes, I totally agree. While I'm not happy with losing, I'm very excited with the progress m seeing. I see Mcmahon as a coach who has a team playing hard, disciplined, team basketball. If you don't see that, then you're just looking for a reason to put McMahon down. He was put behind the eight ball from the beginning and is making something good out of it. But it's just beginning, Hang around, you may be surprised.

It seems to me that the remaining basketball fans are solidly against McMahon. There are also some alleged "fans" who know suspiciously little about basketball, yet defend McMahon as if their very livelihood depends on it.

What’s funny is we play our best when McMahon isn’t coaching and we’re down by 30. As soon as it gets close and the two coaches have to start making decisions the opponent always pulls away again.

Arky and Aggies disagree. We are not ready to beat elite teams on the road, especially without Cook. We will win more home games coming up. Should beat Vandy on the road. Prolly 7 SEC wins.

Arky is trash so you’ve got ATM who shot like 26% that game and that’s taking one game and holding up against 90-95% of all the others. Youre trying to make the exception into the rule.

It’s improvement from last season. No question. LSU is at least beating the bad SEC teams and competing with the average SEC teams. They don’t belong on the same court with the good SEC teams. And while we can (and should) praise them for never quitting, the game tonight was never in doubt. Just like vs Auburn and Alabama.
So the improvement is akin to Sharon Weston-Broome’s second year “improvement” in crime. Yes, year 2 wasn’t a record year for murders. But there were still a ton of murders…which isn’t good. Is that “improvement” really that impressive?
The question is improvement to what end? Better than being terrible? Is that the goal?
The reality is in this era of college basketball is improvement isn’t linear because there is so much roster turnover from year to year. Just look at the SEC. Missouri was great last year. Now they are terrible. South Carolina was battling LSU for the worst team in the league last season. Now they are battling for the SEC title. And those statues could literally flip again next season. So while improvement this year is at least something. It’s no guarantee next year it will continue because LSU (like most teams) will have a significantly different roster.
Fair or not, McMahon (and most othe HC’s) have to show they can put together a (largely) new roster, Get it to gel and perform quickly to maximize success, then put together a largely different roster the next season and do it again. Thus far, there isn’t a lot to look at to make you think he can.

All that shite you posted and you come to this conclusion?
Look he might not win another game this year, But he's improved from last year to this year already... So what makes you think he can't continue to improve?

If the argument is that we should not have fired Wade, can’t say I disagree. But hating McMahon because you are mad at firing Wade is pointless. It’s ok to be pissed about firing Wade and also seeing that McMahon is actually a good basketball coach that has things going in a pretty good direction. But McMahon just isn’t as fun and he doesn’t have to be.

That battling and non-quitting team just got waxed by 20 points and he loves it.
Mr. MA even threw in a time honored "We'll be Fine" for good measure.

Tonight showed this team has no quit. There has been markable improvement and this team is only getting better. I’m feeling better than ever about this basketball squad. We proved we aren’t no pushover. Bama is on notice if they think they can come in to our place and just cruise to a victory.

We still suck arse. Our class this year, well… doesn’t look top tier like BAMAs
Posted on 2/7/24 at 11:59 pm to cbtullis
It’s a process and you can talk till you’re blue in the face but Tiger fans want success now. If we had cook we still lost that game. Tigers are going to near quadruple their sec wins from last year, CMM isn’t going anywheres.

Probably not just like the basketball team. We are better than last year but that isn't saying much. Extremely doubtful that McMahon has any significant success at LSU.
He is a decent coach but we need a very good coach.

Cook has been so unpredictable offensively this year it's hard to say how much he may have helped or hurt this game, and he certainly would not have helped defensively.
Remember in a game in which we had a similar performance we cut a 28 point lead to 8 with Cook pretty much on the bench the whole time.
This team is better than last year, I don't necessarily revel in getting down by huge amounts in the first half and celebrate rallying in garbage time like we have at Auburn and last night, but it's better than quitting for sure.
My mantra in evaluating CMM at this point is let's see how we finish the second half of SEC play, do we improve both individually and collectively to close the year or do we stagnate or regress.

No one at lsu was ever on the trajectory he was on that early in their career at lsu. If it wasn’t for covid he would have had 4 straight tourney appearances out of his first 5 years as the coach. That has not happened before?
Okay. First five year trajectory. Congrats.
While his first five years weren’t tournament seasons, I would argue that what Dale Brown did was every bit as impressive or moreso. LSU basketball when he arrived was as much of an afterthought as LSU baseball was when Skip arrived. Not only that, but football was the ONLY sport in town, and the mentality in Baton Rouge was 100% football ONLY. That was a massive uphill climb he faced. He busted his arse and traveled the state, handing out nets and stopping everywhere to introduce himself for a sport that no one gave a shite about. Within seven years, he built the program to a consistent tournament team throughout the 80’s and the second best team in the conference behind Kentucky. Until Billy Donovan‘s run at Florida LSU was probably the overall second best basketball program in the history of the conference behind Kentucky.
Dale Brown went to multiple sweet 16s, elite 8s and final fours. Perhaps Wade would’ve eventually had the same achievements but to say he had accomplished things that had never been done at LSU before is a bit absurd.
What Will Wade did in his first five years, while impressive, pales in comparison to what Dale Brown did.
