He may not have been the greatest, but he may have the greatest catch.

Foster makes "THE" catch

Okay. You’re right.

You’re trying waaaaay too hard. Whoever you have as your Goats who could catch, and then your Goat hitters who couldn’t catch is fine with me.

Mitchell is still one of the OVERALL best whichever way you feel like you need to slice it up for everyone.

That catch is so overrated. It's athletic, but he didn't have to jump if he just ran under the ball like a normal outfielder. Dude jumps up in the air and hangs there. Just run at speed and it's and easy over the shoulder.

Everyone talking 2009, but nothing hit the ground when Fraley, Stevenson, and Laird were out there. I think Laird went his whole career without an error. Not to mention how good they were as hitters. If there was a single weakness among them, it was arm strength. But they saved so many damn runs running down balls, that the amount of runs they allowed due to weak arms was easily negated.

This is the answer.

The 2009 outfield of Landry, Mahtook, Mitchell didn't play that many games together. Leon was slumping, got benched when Mainieri moved Nola to short, Lemahieu to 2B and Schimpf to left field. 09 was mainly Schimpf, Mahtook, Mitchell.

Joey Belle by himself was a better outfield.

I'd disagree with you here. People don't say Eddie is tGoat first basemen because he could field better than everyone else.

Did you know that Drew Bianco’s dad played at LSU and is baseball coach at Ole Miss?

I don't think Mainieri or any coach ever wanted the outfield we had against Stoney brook

If not worse. I mean, it already started during the Ole Miss series last year.

Defensively, the 1986 outfield of Belle, Mike Papajohn and Rob Hartwig was a beast.

I generally do not like the idea of putting your best hitters this far down the lineup. They get less at plates on average. It will depend on how well Smith and Broussard do. I wouldn’t be surprised at some point to see Watson in the 2 hole with Duplantis hitting 3rd and Cabrera cleanup.

Watson and Duplantis are so versatile, they can both lead off as well. Smith might be a more patient batter, maybe that’s why he is leading off.

Honest question...Do you think Watson will be a better hitter than Josh Smith this year?

Not sure how that helps your argument.
Schimpf was the second best hitter on the team, and hit 22 homers that year, best for 10th all time at LSU. So if you want to take out Leon, one of the best center fielders we've ever had b/c someone else was better for the team, for Schimpf, those 3 still are better than pretty much any other outfield, and no one has even mentioned any of the outfields from the 90's teams.

Leon started 42 games in the outfield. Schimpf started 24.

I agree though that Fraley/Stevenson/Laird was a really good outfield.
