I had said last week that he was locking in on a receiver and throwing regardless. It is clear from your replays that I was wrong. He is at least going through 2 progressions, and in nearly every case, that is all that is required.

He had 1 bad throw. 1-2 more that were off a bit, but well enough to be caught. Our receivers need to step it up. He saw pressure a couple times and got it out of there early and didn't get any help from the guys on the other end of the pass. I'm very encouraged after watching this...much more than I was after watching the game. We have a playmaker guys...I'm ready to see if Quinn is ready to step up and redeem himself after bama last year!!!

Edit...forgot about the screen. 2 bad passes that I saw.

One glaring issue is the lack of actually selling the play action. It sometimes looks like LF7 half asses it

Great post.

Harris was pretty on, asking a developing QB to throw any better than that is ridiculous. WRs have to do a better job helping this offense. Those drops are unexcusable for Dural. The play he made for the ball on that endzone shot was really bad, that ball was thrown perfectly. Our WR have to start attacking the ball if we want to make it through November.

Still needs to learn to take a little off of his passes but I thought that for the most part he was throwing the ball well. The under-throw to Diarse, screen pass to Fournette, and a couple to Dupree in the endzone weren't pretty. However, Dupre and Dural are big-time players that have to bail their QB out every once in awhile. Here's to hoping our WRs embrace their role in this offense and step up when we play some stiffer competition

I'm satisfied with harris' performance. He should have at least been 9/15 for 160 or so.

Dupre just had a bad game. Dural was not even at the stadium.

But most everything was just a fraction off...easily correctable.

That announcer said "through the hands" quite a few times.

where was the dink and dunk passing that this young QB needs to gain confidence?

Although I do like the idea of going deep when the D is creeping up toward the LOS, I agree that mixing in some short to mid-range passes would be beneficial in developing rhythm and confidence in the passing game, and that would be a way to get more guys touches, which I think is a general positive thing in a number of different ways.

I would like to hear Les Miles talk at length about the role of the TE in the LSU Offense. There are times when the TEs are great assets in the run game, but I'm puzzled as to why they are not utilized more on short, quick passes, especially with young, inexperienced QBs.

This video confirmed what I suspected, there are short, intermediate and long routes in the scheme. Harris just locks in on one guy and throws it there.

Also the scheme has routes in the middle of the field, hitches, outs and slants. Harris is choosing the bomb when he sees single cover no safety

I think this is all growing pains of a young QB and a lot of people on here need to STFU about Cam and Miles.

This is usually the correct read. Just need to execute it better.

As any competent OC would do for a young, inexperienced QB, well, maybe except at LSU. Cam Cameron needs to realize that #6 is not those NFL ready QBs he used to work with, nor is he a 5th year senior like Mett. Harris needs some easy passes to build a rhythm and confidence throughout the game, and crossing routes, flat routes, RB swing are all popular routes called for young QBs, which you rarely saw in this LSU passing scheme.

One play that really stood out to me was the "fumble/interception" of Harris on 2nd and 10. As you see in the video, all three routes were either seam or post route with no short-intermediate routes for Harris to check down, which takes a while to develop and forces Harris to stand in the pocket for a long time until it collapsed. Les blamed Harris on that play for lack of pocket awareness, but you look closely, there really wasn't anywhere for Harris to go other than taking the sack. Granted he should take care of the ball, but a failed play call set up that turnover from the beginning.

The WRs in 3 and 4 wide have the shorter and easier routes in the scheme. Looks like harris is simply choosing to throw it where he wants and not consistently reading the field.

These things take time

Luckily we got pass interference calls on the under thrown balls. We had dropped passes but failed to complete an easy RB screen. I'm mostly disappointed in Dural and Dupree. They need to step up and be more aggressive going up for the ball if they can't get separation. I will still say LF7 needs to be used several times a game in the short passing game. Looks like what we are trying to do is throw deep passes and we can't get separation or rail routes with a small window to complete the pass.

LSU being aggressive vertically to counter 8/9 in the box will take those PI calls all day. They are left off the stat sheet but thats absolutely one of the things youre looking for being that aggressive downfield...pressuring their corners to hold up on an island.

I completely agree.

Dural didn't look Dural and Dupre just didn't have his head in the game.

The play with 7:25 left in the 1at was really weird. PA QB read slant. That route only has one option, #3. If you watch, the other receivers run downfield only to block. Harris stares it down and nothing is there. That's an odd play.

Also, our routes va plays man coverage are atrocious. It's pretty much, hope our guy can beat your guy 1 v 1 cause there are no progressions or schemes to get guys open in the plays.

When they go man, I'm not sure why we don't run come back routes. Pretty much an unstoppable play. Harris is late on throws so he would have to master the timing. I want Fournette to be used a lot more in the passing game. I think we will see other receivers have their chance this weekend.

Question: when deep shots continue to draw PI, why not continue to prey on it?

Despite Dural's effort, they seemed to deliver first downs.

There was only one legit drop that I saw. However he has a huge drop back that makes it very difficult to pass protect and adds distance on every throw. He had a 5 step drop out of shotgun on one of the plays.

I really hope Grimes gave Hawkins a serious arse chewing after this effort. That's pretty atrocious.
