Harris not knowing the playbook = mind blowing

Is it just me or does this just seem incomprehensible? College football in America has become akin to stepping into the Roman Coliseum ( minus the death aspect ) with the eyes of millions upon you. The money, the glory, the out right national fame associated with what has become America's game--it should be enough to seize the attention and focus of any young man. It should galvanize you as a young man, instilling in you a drive and work ethic to succeed.

For me, I think the fear of screwing up in front of 100,000 people would force me to memorize it like the back of my hand. Even if I have a presentation in front of only 20 people or so, I make sure I know my shite through and through because I don't want to be the center of attention and look like an idiot.

Cauliflower tastes better than broccoli, in my opinion. Just saying.

Yeah its so simple to learn a college play book even for a kid just out of high school. :)
Same with a rookie in the NFL. Remember, that is why Flynn is still in the NFL, even with minimal talent, and seventh round draft status.. He applied himself to learning the plays. That is why JR made the millions and left, he refused to learn the play book.
Guys with unbelievable talent who have succeeded at the lower level on talent alone. Eventually, talent alone isn't enough.

BH ran a totally different offense in HS. When he came here, he clearly underestimated the difficulty in transitioning to a pro style set. He didn't apply himself (by his own admission), and got lapped by AJ.
It's not that difficult to understand.
There's a guy in my real estate office who used to sell cars and made a hefty six figure salary doing so. He came over about three months ago and figured....I got this. I'll just sit in my office with my feet propped up and the customers will come running to me...I'm that good! Selling real estate and selling cars are both selling....but that's where the similarities end. Needless to say he nearly starved to death those first few months and is now trying desperately to get his shite together, all the while getting lapped by those that are hustling. such is life for the fat and happy.

Going from high school ball to college ball and not getting all of the reps will slow down the development at least he did get to play some..
friend from the team said he knows the playbook well now.
big strides were made over the spring. I do expect him to take over the reins sometime this year! Playbook and terminology was difficult for him because he played in shotgun in high school.
I did hear he was not as good in his footwork this lead to be off on his reads. He just was not completely ready.
Should see his natural talent show this year.

I think that's a generalization. It's also knowing when to check down and why based on the defense. It's about the ability to go through your route progressions without panic (although that is Jennings' biggest weakness). I think there are different blocking packages by the OL, and the QB has to be in sinc with them.
We hear all the time that "the light needs to go on". We saw it with Mett his final year. Let's hope we see it with Harris.....because he has the physical tools.

Minimal? Did you ever even watch him play?

You sound like you have too much time on your hands.

I just dont understand...even reggie ball started his freshman year

Nationally prominent programs should always expect to be carried by true freshmen, it is a strength

Mett started making strides late during 2012....25-37 for 298 yards and a perfect fade to Landry for a score against Bama was when he started turning the the corner IMO. If BH can get us to a 3-0 start right out of the gate...I think his confidence will be sky high and he'll really start to come into his own.

I agree, it's one of the many things holding him back from a starting position. AJ has mastered the playbook and his mechanics are much improved. Plus he has more experience than Brendan Harris. It's a no brainer Les is going to start the veteran.
AJ is a real threat on the option too, I think he and our stable of RBs are gonna kill it this year

It's like we should be recruiting QB's that run a similar system as we do....
