I liked him.
When I was a walk-on in 1994, He helped me start my car in TS parking lot after a spring practice.

As a fan who at the time, was a young LSU die hard, please don't do this next year. Can you imagine listening to Jim Hawthorne every Saturday during those years?? Jim was a NegaTiger in the 2000s, try 1992. I think I've got some childhood trauma over it.

When I think Curly, I think the pick 6 game at Auburn, and a 2-9 season. How in the hell could LSU EVER go 2-9??

My favorite brag is that I stayed to the end of the 58-3 loss in 1993, the worst loss in Tiger Stadium history. I was a freshman at LSU in 1991, and I never got to experience a winning season as an undergrad.

I was in dental school from 91-95 at LSU in New Orleans. They gave us free tickets every weekend. Not many takers. I remember many games with a half empty Tiger Stadium during blowouts courtesy of the visiting teams. It was a far cry from witnessing the LSU-FSU game in 1982 as a high schooler. Totally different atmosphere. Dark days.

Hal Hunter coached one game and he’s a better coach in Tiger history than Curly.

I started LSU in the Fall of '89 so I got the bonus year of Archer along with Curley. I believe Florida loss was worst home defeat in history.

I blame Brett Favre for making him look like a decent coach.

You can’t have a head football coach named Curley
Or a Head Basketball Coach with a last name of McHallman!

Hallman did beat #1 in the Country on their almost Home Field(Legion Field not Bryant -Denny), & the 1st thing Gerry DiNardo did when he got the job was to drop Florida State and Texas A&M, always 2 losses for Hallman

The 93 Arkansas game freezing my dick off hoping we’d get bowl eligible but instead we allowed 3 different guys to run for over 100 yards and got stomped by the Hogs. Still a vivid memory

I was there, too, and my dick is still defrosting. With a Carquest Bowl (RIP) berth on the line, the Pigs gashed the Tiger D for 400+ rushing yards, all on the same dive play IIRC.

And that was Curley’s best year.

Not quite nothing. He was the guy who made pigs fly in Tuscaloosa.

I don't actually wish him ill, but I sure don't miss him on the sidelines (or anywhere in the vicinity of our program).

That was my freshman year in TGBFTL. We had won 3 in a row over OM, Bama and Tulame and we just knew that bowl game was happening. We were projected to go to the CarQuest Bowl, which was in Miami, so everyone in the band was excited after 4 straight losing seasons.

And then that game happened. What a kick in the nuts.

A year later I got stuck in the pep band in Little Rock on a rainy day in the 40s to watch that idiot win his last game after being fired.

I had an interesting encounter with a State fan several years ago. He noticed my LSU shirt and we started talking football, and he brought up Hallman. Hallman was the DB coach there in 02 and 03 and the guy had gotten to know him when he lived in Starkville. He said Hallman went to the same bar/restaurant he did often and always sat alone. He went up and introduced himself one evening and Hallman told him to pull up a chair.

He said that Hallman was very open and willing to talk about his football career. Supposedly he was very candid about his time at LSU. He didn’t have any ill will or sour grapes after being fired, and in fact had a lot of praise for LSU and was still grateful to have gotten the opportunity. Basically he hated that he couldn’t get it done here, but figured out he wasn’t up to the task. As obvious as that became, considering how egotistical a lot of coaches can be, I didn’t expect that.

I wouldn’t say this made be like Hallman, but I did appreciate that he accepted the truth and owned it. Joe Dean is the one who hired him and then kept him in that job FAR longer than he should have,

Got my parking pass when he was there, still have today. Could have thrown a rock thru the lot back then and not hit another car.
